This new OnePlus 3 update brings more headaches than relief

Normally, updates are made to squash annoying bugs and bring relief to frustrated users of a product. Normally. And the latest update to OnePlus’ flavor of Android for its flagship certainly brought some of the latter — but it brought plenty more of the former.

The 26MB update to OxygenOS 3.2.4 for the OnePlus 3 did not bring any major features, such as the August security patch, but it seemingly improved call quality and fixed a nasty bug that restarted the phone at random. The update did not squash every bug, however, as users took to the OnePlus forums to complain about the selfie camera’s auto-focus issue, something that was not fixed with the update.

The update also brought some annoying bugs with it, such as the inability to use Android Pay. Even worse, more than a few users reported the OnePlus 3’s inability to hold onto a 4G LTE signal. Their phones constantly drop back to 3G and 2G connections.

Savvy users have come up with a possible solution: Open the dialer and enter *#*#4636#*#*. Then, in “phone information,” tap “preferred network type” and select “LTE only.” Keep in mind that solution does not seem to work for everyone, so your mileage may vary.

Despite the phone likely being the best bang for your buck at the moment, the OnePlus 3 has had a number of high-profile issues since launch, such as RAM management and the display’s color being slightly off. Those issues have since been fixed, though we are not sure when OnePlus plans to fix the latest batch of problems.

Potential customers in most of Europe and Hong Kong might not even deal with these issues, since OnePlus will halt sales in the regions as the company tries to keep up with demand. Sales in affected countries will resume on September 12.

It’s finally happening — OnePlus will release a folding phone this year

OnePlus just announced during its “From Fast & Smooth to Beyond” panel at MWC 2023 that it will be launching its first foldable smartphone this year. While OnePlus launched the OnePlus 11 earlier this month, it has revealed plans for its first foldable smartphone in the second half of 2023.

“Our first foldable phone will have the signature OnePlus fast and smooth experience. It must be a flagship phone that doesn’t settle because of its folding form, in terms of industrial design, mechanical technology, and other aspects. We want to launch a device that aims to be at the pinnacle experience of today’s foldable market.” said Kinder Liu, President, and COO of OnePlus, at the event.
