Watch this iPhone SE experience an absurd drop test involving ‘Flubber’

boiling-melted-crayon immersions.

So while some stunts sensibly test the durability of various handsets in situations that stay within the realms of possibility, others merely show off their creator’s outlandish imagination, usually leading to bizarre shenanigans for the watching masses.

Take GizmoSlip, a YouTube channel that describes itself as offering “creative and fun tech durability tests.”

For its latest effort, the team encased an iPhone SE in a slab of Flubber and dropped it off a building. Flubber, for those not in the know, is a kind of rubbery substance, a version of which can be made from glue, Borax, food coloring, and water. It looks like a cross between hard candy and the consequences of a heavy cold, and first showed up in the 1961 hit movie The Absent-Minded Professor.

Apparently it bounces a lot. GizmoSlip makes a lot of Flubber’s bouncy qualities, saying excitedly, for example, how they’re going to create a “homemade bouncy ball” for the drop test.

With the Flubber looking suitably green and pliable, the team squishes an iPhone into it until the device is completely cocooned. The whole darn lot is then dropped onto the street from a height of 100 feet.

What happens next is somewhat surprising, causing the presenter to utter the sentence, “I was really hoping it would bounce.”

To check out exactly what became of this mysterious rubber substance, and, perhaps more importantly, the iPhone SE, check out the video above. Then you can decide if you want your next smartphone case to be made of Flubber.

It’s peak summer season, but that also means we’re getting closer to Apple’s fall event in September. This is typically when we expect the next generation of iPhones and Apple Watches.

This year, we’re expecting the iPhone 15 lineup, which should include the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. On top of that, it’s safe to say that we should also see the Apple Watch Series 9, but whether we’re getting a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra is still up in the air. And new AirPods? Who knows! Regardless, it will be exciting and jam-packed with a ton of new products.
