There are many ways to lose a smartphone. But doing so while performing a bungee jump isn’t a way that immediately springs to mind.

However, watch the video below and you’ll learn that if you do ever find yourself leaping from a great height with a stretchy rubber material attached to your legs, it’s a really good idea to empty your pockets before doing so.

Máirtín Farragher learned this the hard way.

In his eagerness to experience the world’s highest bungee jump, located at Bloukrans Bridge near Nature’s Valley in South Africa, the Irishman completely forgot that his iPhone was in his pants pocket.

We even see the device slip gently from his pocket during the dive before falling out of shot and presumably plopping into the river several hundred meters below.

With his attention caught a few seconds later by loose coins also falling from his pocket, Farragher checks his pants to discover the horrible truth.

“Oh no, I dropped my phone!” he calls out while dangling upside down in the middle of nowhere. But by then it was too late.

Following the mishap, Farragher wrote on Facebook, “Yesterday I learned a valuable lesson – don’t do a bungee jump with your phone in your pocket. It’s at the bottom of a canyon now in South Africa.”

Buying phones at an auction is a great way to save some of your hard-earned money — whether you're looking for the best Android phones or a new iPhone. It can be online bidding on platforms like eBay or an in-person affair like a customs office sale. But one place you should never pick up a phone from is a police auction.

The folks at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Maryland purchased 228 phones seized and subsequently auctioned by the police and found that most of them had not been properly wiped. While that may seem harmless, it's a tsunami of risks for an average phone user.

It’s peak summer season, but that also means we’re getting closer to Apple’s fall event in September. This is typically when we expect the next generation of iPhones and Apple Watches.

This year, we’re expecting the iPhone 15 lineup, which should include the standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. On top of that, it’s safe to say that we should also see the Apple Watch Series 9, but whether we’re getting a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra is still up in the air. And new AirPods? Who knows! Regardless, it will be exciting and jam-packed with a ton of new products.
