Michael Cera is one of the few Hollywood actors who makes himself scarce enough that we want more of him, not less. And Aaron Sorkin … well … he’s Aaron Sorkin.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two may team for the upcoming Molly’s Game, which will mark the directorial debut of the already legendary Hollywood scribe. The film centers around an ex-skier named Molly Bloom (Jessica Chastain) who runs an underground poker game for Hollywood elites, but quickly gets in over her head.
If Cera does sign on, he’ll most likely portray a character named Player X, who gets involved with the game and gets close to Molly herself. Aside from Cera and Chastain, the film also stars Idris Elba in an unspecified role.
While Cera’s comedic chops made him a household name, it looks like he’ll be putting on a straight-er face for this one. Might he be looking to go the “serious actor” route like his Superbad buddy Jonah Hill? We’re just spitballing, but having an Aaron Sorkin film on his résumé would certainly give it a bit more gravitas. Either way, the actor currently has several irons in the fire. He’s set to appear in the upcoming Twin Peaks reboot and will voice Robin in The Lego Batman Movie, which is due in theaters February 10, 2017.
Molly’s Game is based on the book of the same name by Molly Bloom. A release date has not been set for the film, but it’s expected to hit theaters sometime in 2017.
Stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated with casting info and the latest news on the project.
