The first trailer for Jordan Peele’s horror movie ‘Get Out’ is scary good

We already know the Key & Peele team have a knack for comedy, but what about horror?

Blumhouse Productions and QC Entertainment released the first trailer for Get Out, the upcoming thriller written and directed by one half of that comedy duo, Jordan Peele. The film follows a young man whose weekend getaway intended to finally introduce him to his girlfriend’s parents takes a strange — and possibly deadly — turn when he discovers that the parents’ efforts to embrace their interracial relationship might hide something sinister.

The film stars Daniel Kaluuya (Sicario) and Allison Williams (Girls) as the young couple, and Catherine Keener (Capote) and Bradley Whitford (The West Wing) as the parents of Williams’ character. The supporting cast includes X-Men: First Class actor Caleb Landry Jones, The Carmichael Show‘s Milton ‘Lil Rel’ Howery, Betty Gabriel (The Purge: Election Year), Marcus Henderson (Pete’s Dragon), and Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton).

Get Out will be Peele’s directorial debut and just the second feature-length film he has written. He also co-wrote this year’s comedy Keanu, which he also co-starred in with his Key & Peele partner, Keegan-Michael Key. That film earned $20 million worldwide from a $15 million budget and received good reviews from professional critics and mixed reviews from general audiences.

The upcoming film is produced by Blumhouse, the production studio responsible for low-budget horror hits The Visit and the Sinister, Paranormal Activity, and The Purge franchises.

Get Out hits theaters February 24.

From Get Out to Nope, Jordan Peele proves he’s an actor’s director

There were almost too many shocking things about Jordan Peele's 2017 directorial debut Get Out to count. The movie was so assured, so confidently funny and genuinely terrifying that it was easy to overlook the wonderful performances Peele had managed to wring out of his ensemble. Daniel Kaluuya was a revelation in the central role, and he was surrounded by an ensemble of mostly lesser-known stars. Catherine Keener is always great, but the rest of the ensemble was ripped from smaller movies or TV, and each one of them delivers exactly when the movie needs them to.

Get Out was so special in so many ways, though, that it almost felt like a fluke. Every element felt too perfect, and so we had to turn to Peele's next project to get a firm grasp of his whether his talents were real — they were. Us, which followed Get Out two years later, is certainly a more sprawling, messy work, but all of the hallmarks of Peele's initial style were still there. He was just as assured, just as careful, and the performances he got out of his actors may have been even better.

Final trailer for Nope sheds light on Jordan Peele’s film

Since becoming a horror sensation following the release of Get Out, writer and director Jordan Peele has seemingly embraced the idea that his films work best when audiences don't know what to expect. Us was a prime example of that, and Peele's next movie, Nope, is continuing the tradition. Previous trailers have hinted that this horror story would venture into the realm of sci-fi and aliens. But the final trailer for Nope finally offers some revelations about how its main characters find themselves in a science fiction nightmare.

Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer are co-headlining Nope as siblings OJ and Emerald Haywood, the owners of a ranch who are inexplicably tormented by an unidentified flying object. Upon realizing that they could potentially cash in on this phenomenon, the Haywoods attempt to get proof. Unfortunately, this appears to have antagonized the UFO. And the Haywoods will suddenly find themselves in way over their heads as things begin to escalate.

Based on a short story by Clive Barker, the original Candyman was directed in 1992 by Bernard Rose but now it's getting a modern overhaul courtesy of director Nia DaCosta and producer and co-writer Jordan Peele.
