One for the road; iKeyp smart safe is portable and secure

There are certain items that belong under lock and key, and in many cases, prescription drugs are among them. To try and prevent theft and increase drug adherence, Solo Technology Holdings, LLC has launched its first product: the iKeyp, a smart safe designed to secure medications as well as small valuables.

The smartphone-enabled safe is designed with a humidity-resistant seal to guard its contents against the elements and other potential threats. On top of that, the digital combination keypad is water-resistant, and the iKeyp features a motion detector, three-axis sensor, and shock and vibration monitor. If the safe is disturbed, it will send a real-time security alert to you via text, email, or mobile app.

If you don’t have a smartphone, audio and visual alerts will go off instead. You’ll also be notified if the iKeyp is low on battery, out of Wi-Fi range, or if its door has been left open. On top of that, you can set reminders, so you’ll get an alert at a designated time if you need to take your medicine or retrieve your passport, for example. The iKeyp app will even let you view weekly summaries of medication adherence metrics.

The safe is intended to be both convenient and portable. As such, it is small and lightweight for use at home or while traveling. In either case, the iKeyp fits inside medicine cabinets and drawers, and its expanding wings will lock it in place. When you need to open it, you can use the safe’s keypad, its manual lock, or your smartphone.

The safe is now available for pre-order on Indiegogo. It is already too late for super early bird pricing, but iKeyp safes can be purchased for $99. Products are expected to begin shipping in March.

A person pointing to the Yale Smart Safe.

Yale is widely known for its premium smart locks and deadbolts, but the company’s lineup extends well beyond your front door. And although we are just a few days into 2023, Yale has already added two new products to its catalog -- the Yale Smart Safe and Yale Smart Safe with Wi-Fi.

The two Yale Smart Safes are designed to be used with the existing Yale Access app, making it easy for existing Yale users to add the product to their smart home ecosystem. Both products also feature a built-in keypad and a traditional key, giving you three ways to access your valuables. The more affordable Yale Smart Safe ($250) works with Bluetooth for local control, or you can step up to the Smart Safe with Wi-Fi ($300) to access your vault from just about anywhere in the world. This model also supports Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri.

The j7+ is iRobot’s first two-in-one vacuum and mop combo
The Roomba Combo j7+ mopping wood floors.

Robot vacuums have quickly become a key part of a connected smart home, and iRobot is giving customers a new, premium option with the Roomba Combo j7+ -- a robot vacuum that can both mop and vacuum without any additional user input, thanks to a retractable mophead that stows away when moving from hardwood to carpet.

This retractable mophead is what sets the j7+ apart from the competition. Most premium robot vacuums feature both mopping and vacuuming capabilities but require the user to swap out the mophead before letting it roll onto the carpet. With the Roomba Combo j7+, that’s all been automated. Not only can iRobot’s new product detect what type of surface it’s on but it can also raise its mop pad in the air to avoid saturating your carpet.
