At the PlayStation experience in Anaheim, California, Capcom unveiled the new trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, the latest entry in the long-running fighting game series. Capcom also announced that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is being re-released on current-gen systems as a digital download.
As the trailer opens, Mega Man approaches in what looks like an infinity stone before being blasted away by a blue energy beam. Luckily, Ryu, from Street Fighter, iss there to pick him up. The camera then pans up to Iron Man as he begins his barrage against Capcom’s most iconic figures. Ryu powers up to punch Iron Man away. That’s when Ms. Marvel comes into frame and all four run toward each other. The trailer then goes to black and shows what appears to be Ultron.
Marvel vs. Capcom was originally released in arcades as a cross-over fighter. Unlike most fighting games, Marvel vs. Capcom had players picking two characters, and swapping them out during battle. It quickly gained popularity and was soon released on consoles.
Even though Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is five years old, it was still featured in this year’s Evolution Championship fighting game tournament in Las Vegas. There, top players from around the world convened to see who would be this year’s champion. This year it went to Christopher “NYChrisG” Gonzalez.
More information and new characters will be revealed on December 4 on ESPN2 at 5:30 p.m. PT during the Capcom Cup Street Fighter V tournament. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is available today for $25 on PlayStation Network and will be out in March 2017 on Xbox Live.
A release date for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite has not been set.
