Wipeout HD, Wipeout Fury, and Wipeout 2048.

All three games will be updated to run at 60 frames per second, and PlayStation Pro owners can experience their blistering speeds at 4K resolution.

Dating back to the 32-bit era, Wipeout is a futuristic racing game that puts players in control of antigravity vehicles capable of speeds of up to several hundred miles per hour. Races take place atop twisting, rollercoaster-like racetracks, and all competitors are armed with missiles, mines, and other forms of destructive weaponry.

After premiering with a trio of titles for the original PlayStation, the Wipeout series made the jump to the PlayStation 3 in 2008 with Wipeout HD. An expansion pack, Wipeout Fury, followed in 2009, while the fully-fledged sequel Wipeout 2048 hit the PS Vita in 2012.

According to Sony, all three games will be updated with improved visuals and remastered audio for the upcoming Omega Collection.

“With graphics that have been enhanced to take advantage of 4K displays, Wipeout has never looked so good — but we haven’t just focused on visuals,” Sony XDev’s John McLaughlin assures. “We’ll have an all-new, thumping soundtrack for you to race with, featuring a few classics as well as tracks from the hottest up-and-coming artists. Wipeout Omega Collection is a feast for both your eyes and ears.”

Sony notes that the compilation will include a total of nine gameplay modes, including the single-player Career Mode from Wipeout 2048. Also on offer are Zone, Tournament, Speed Lap, Time Trial, and Single Race modes from Wipeout HD, along with Zone Battle, Eliminator, and Detonator modes from Wipeout Fury. Many featured modes are playable in local split-screen modes for up to four players, while online matches can accommodate up to eight competitors.

Wipeout: Omega Collection launches for the PlayStation 4 in the summer of 2017.
