No, ‘Persona 5’ is not coming to the Switch or PC — for real this time

For those unfamiliar with the work of John Hardin, he’s a public relations manager for Atlus and he’s clearly very irritated with people asking him if Persona 5 is coming to Nintendo Switch. After being listed back at the hybrid console’s October reveal as a platform partner, it’s no surprise that Atlus was pressured into revealing early just which games were not on the way.

If you’re a fan of both Nintendo and Atlus, however, you may be saddened to know that whatever the developer has in store for the Switch, it’s neither Yakuza 0 nor Persona 5. Rather, each of those games is destined for PlayStation 4, with the latter also making its way to the ever-aging PS3.

This news comes via Twitter, where Hardin confirmed that not only are these fan-favorite titles sidestepping the Switch, but they’re also averting PC releases. As he bluntly put on Twitter, accompanied by a GIF from HBO’s Silicon Valley.

Not even one day after the Nintendo Switch reveal video dropped, Reddit was scrambling to catch Atlus’ attention, with an entire thread commanding the company to release a port of the highly anticipated RPG.

“They have no excuse to say it is not powerful enough, and it would have to be downgraded to meet the likes of Vita,” said Reddit user Guitar_Smash. “If this handheld can run Skyrim, these [guys] need to get to work.”

As for the N-Gage, Hardin suggested to one Twitter follower that they “burn it and free the demons within.” For those looking to play either Yakuza 0 or Persona 5 on Sony’s platforms, you can experience Atlus’ latest on January 24 and April 4, respectively.

Yakuza 0 initially appeared on store shelves in Japan in 2015 for PS3 but was later brought to PS4 as well. It was announced for a North American release in December. Persona 5, which was originally slated for a February launch, was delayed in November.

I remember back in 2014 when I was keeping my eye out for any rumor I could find about Persona 5. Having seen the teaser trailers of the game, I was so excited to see it finally release in 2015. That year passed without it launching. When Persona 5 was released in Japan in September 2016, the wait for its April 2017 international release was excruciating. During that time, there was another game that caught my attention: Tokyo Xanadu. Its core gameplay revolved around a slice-of-life school setting and dungeon crawling. Sound familiar?

I was already a big fan of developer Falcom’s games like the Trails and Ys series, so I figured I would play this to hold me over until Persona 5. This was during a time when Japanese and international release dates were staggered due to old localization processes. Nowadays, the entire world can experience games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the same release day. Tokyo Xanadu was released in Japan in 2015 for PS Vita, but didn’t release internationally until 2017, a few months after Persona 5. Its enhanced port, Tokyo Xanadu eX+, released later that same year for PC and PS4.

Nintendo is coming after Switch modders once again

Nintendo is no stranger to lawsuits these days, and it's filed two more, as reported Tuesday. One is against the owner of a company who allegedly sold modded Switches, while the other concerns the moderator of a subreddit where users could learn how to play pirated games.

According to TorrentFreak, which had copies of both complaints filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, Nintendo is suing Modded Hardware and its owner, Ryan "Homebrew Homie" Daly, for selling Mod Chips, modded Switch consoles, and a memory card that lets people play pirated games. Nintendo's lawyer wrote in the suit that this caused "substantial and irreparable" harm to the console giant. It's seeking damages for copyright infringement, along with other charges such as "trafficking in circumvention devices."

Mistwalker's Apple Arcade exclusive RPG Fantasian is making its way to consoles under the new title Fantasian Neo Dimension. Fantasian was originally released in two parts in 2021, and Fantasian Neo Dimension will contain all the game's content when released on Nintendo Switch for the 2024 holiday season.

During the June 2024 Nintendo Direct, Fantasian Neo Dimension was revealed to be coming to Nintendo Switch in time for the holidays. Fantasian is a turn-based RPG featuring an amnesiac protagonist named Leo who awakens in a dimension known as the Machine Realm. In the Apple version, players would tap on locations to move Leo around the maps and engage in random battles. However, using the Dimengeon system would allow players to disable random battles against foes they already faced and store them in the titular Dimengeon to explore uninterrupted. There is a limit to how many fights can be stored, so players cannot avoid every fight in the game.
