Bethesda’s E3 2017 press conference is live at 9 p.m. Pacific, watch it here

E3 2017 marks just the third year that Bethesda will put on its own press conference. Previously, the studio behind The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series showcased its games during Sony’s and Microsoft’s briefings. Despite its relative infancy as a major E3 player, Bethesda has quickly become known as a studio that puts on pressers full of intrigue and excitement, without all the excess filler.

In 2015, Bethesda not only revealed Fallout 4, but announced that the game would be released just five months later. And last year, Bethesda unveiled Prey, Quake Champions, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Remastered, along with a tantalizing teaser of the next Wolfenstein game. We expect Bethesda’s 2017 conference to match the excitement of the last two years. This is one you definitely want to tune in for.

Where to watch

Bethesda will take the stage at 9 p.m. PT on Sunday, June 11. The conference can be streamed over Bethesda’s Twitch or YouTube channels, but we’re making it easy. What to watch for

Bethesda’s E3 2017 should be quite interesting, mostly because there’s not too much in the pipeline that we know about yet. Sure, there’s likely to be updates on Fallout 4 VR, the Switch port of Skyrim, and Quake Champions, but besides those three games, what Bethesda is working on is a mystery — mostly.

The next chapter of Wolfenstein, presumably titled Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, was teased in a command shell before the Quake Champions reveal at E3 2016. A pair of voice actors confirmed the existence of a sequel to Wolfenstein: The New Order later in the year. Expect Wolfenstein: The New Colossus to be officially unveiled during the show.

It also appears that a sequel to The Evil Within is in the works, as advertisements for it hit Reddit before the press conference — a mistake on the part of Bethesda’s marketing team, we assume.

In its E3 invites, Bethesda included a graphic of “Bethesdaland,” with attractions for its numerous franchises. One unidentifiable attraction was listed as “coming soon,” while another was labeled “under construction.” It’s certainly possible that Bethesda will announce at least one of these games, and perhaps both. We can assume that both of these are new IPs.

Bethesda has announced that it added six titles to the PC Game Pass service today, most of which are from the 1990s or early 2000s. However, there is no word about them being included on Xbox Game Pass for console or cloud.

The six new games include Wolfenstein 3D, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Quake 4, Quake Champions, An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire, and The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard.

After being canceled both physically and digitally in 2022, E3 seemed all but finished. Several months after this year's cancellation was announced, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) stated that the event is far from dead, with plans to return with a physical show in the works for 2023. Now, we have confirmation on just how it plans to get back on its feet after the ESA announced a partnership with ReedPop, the company behind the PAX conventions.

Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest, as well as other digital gaming showcase livestreams coming this summer, have proven that the gaming industry doesn't need E3, which was canceled this year for the second time in two years to reduce health risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is telling everyone not to count it out just yet. Gaming's governing body has announced that E3 will be returning in 2023.

ESA President and CEO Stan Pierre-Louis said in an interview with The Washington Post that E3 2023 will combine both in-person and digital elements. He attributed the success of last year's virtual E3 to the expanse of its reach to fans and journalists around the world who couldn't afford to fly to Los Angeles for the convention or couldn't attend it for other reasons. He added that people still want to connect and network with each other in person.
