AMD parts dominate Dell’s Computex lineup of Inspiron desktops, all-in-ones

For starters, we have Dell’s new Inspiron-branded gaming desktop. Customers will have a choice of five processors from AMD: Three full-blown Ryzen chips and two “all-in-one” APUs. It’s here where the lone GeForce GTX 1060 comes into play, serving as one choice in a list of four graphics card options. Backing both are options for standard fan-based and liquid cooling to keep all those AMD processors cool under PC gaming pressure.

The list of hardware shown below is quite extensive. The types and amounts of ports depends on whether customers chose a Ryzen processor or an A-Series APU chip. Outside of that, some of the notable features offered in the desktop include up to 32GB of system memory clocked at 2,400MHz (DDR4), dual storage options (SSD + HDD), and Polar Blue LED illumination set against a metal-like silver casing. It’s an ideal setup for customers wanting to delve into high-end virtual reality without having to take out a loan at the bank.

Similar to the Inspiron desktop, this 27-inch, all-in-one PC is based on AMD’s Ryzen desktop processors, too — namely the Ryzen 7 1700 and the Ryzen 5 1400. Backing these chips are AMD’s discrete Radeon RX 580 and Radeon RX 560 graphics cards, which made their debut earlier this year as price-friendly solutions for upgrading PCs to support high-quality virtual reality (HTC Vive, Oculus Rift).

According to Dell, this all-in-one PC sports an InfinityEdge screen, which boils down to super-slim bezels on the left, right, and top of the viewing area. It’s backed by a panel based on In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology, which is known for deep, rich colors and superwide viewing angles. Memory options span from 8GB to 32GB (two memory slots) while the storage options range from a single 1TB hard drive to dual-storage configurations mixing an SSD with a hard drive.

“The back cover of the Inspiron 27 7000 is removable, providing easy access to the HDD as well as SSD storage and memory,” Dell states. “It’s beautiful on the outside too, with a sleek, sophisticated design you’ll be proud to show off.”

Outside its smaller form factor and screen, what makes this all-in-one PC different than the Inspiron 27 7000 is that it’s based on AMD’s latest A-Series all-in-one processors (APUs), which have an integrated Radeon R7 GPU component, instead of Ryzen. However, customers can option to add AMD’s discrete Radeon RX 560 graphics card if they want to experience high-definition virtual reality experiences.

Outside the size and processor differences, this model appears to offer the same features as the larger Inspiron 27 7000, such as up to 32GB of system memory and several storage options. However, this model includes optional touch support, which isn’t offered on the bigger all-in-one PC. Still, it’s locked down to a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, whereas the larger Inspiron 27 7000 provides up to 4K resolution.

Note that both Inspiron all-in-one PCs include an infrared facial recognition camera. This is compatible with Windows Hello, which allows users to log onto the PC using their face instead of a passwords or PIN.
