Latest ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ trailer digs deeper into film’s mystery

Foul deeds are afoot in the most recent trailer for Murder on the Orient Express, the latest adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic mystery novel of the same name.

Twentieth Century Fox released the trailer on Thursday, offering another look at director Kenneth Branagh’s take on the famous story about a murder on a train that has no shortage of potential suspects. The preview delves further into the film’s mystery and includes some new clues — or red herrings, perhaps — such as two notes that read: “Better watch yourself” and “No one gets the better of us.” Mysterious, indeed.

Branagh both directs and stars in the film, portraying detective Hercule Poirot, the Belgian investigator who is a recurring character in many of Christie’s novels. The movie has Poirot investigating a murder that occurs on a popular long-distance passenger train, which he soon discovers is full of people with reasons to want the victim dead.

Christie’s novel was first published in 1934 and is widely considered one of the greatest murder mystery stories ever created. The story was previously adapted for a 1974 film directed by Sidney Lumet that received six Academy Award nominations. Ingrid Bergman won an Academy Award for her performance in a supporting role.

Along with Branagh in the lead role and director’s chair, Murder on the Orient Express features quite a few familiar faces. The accomplished cast includes Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz as Pilar Estravados, Academy Award nominee Willem Dafoe as Gerhard Hardman, Academy Award winner Judi Dench as Princess Dragomiroff, Academy Award nominee Johnny Depp as Ratchett, and Academy Award nominee Michelle Pfeiffer as Mrs. Hubbard. The cast is filled out by Josh Gad as Hector MacQueen, Derek Jacobi as Edward Masterman, Leslie Odom Jr. as Dr. Arbuthnot, and Daisy Ridley as Mary Debenham.

The screenplay for the film was penned by Alien: Covenant and Logan screenwriter Michael Green.

In June, the studio unveiled the first trailer, along with the announcement of a new website for the film at CluesAreEverywhere.com.

Everything coming to PBS in November 2024
Rachel Shenton and Nicholas Ralph in All Creatures Great and Small.

There are no new British dramas premiering on PBS in November, but there's more than enough programming to see you through the penultimate month of 2024. Ken Burns is premiering his new documentary, Leonardo da Vinci, about the world's most famous Renaissance man, artist, and inventor. And PBS has several other documentary and nature programs slated to run throughout the month.

PBS' non-partisan coverage of the 2024 presidential election will culminate on Tuesday, November 5. But if you're really missing your British dramas, there are encore presentations of All Creatures Great & Small and Call the Midwife coming as well.

What’s new on Amazon Prime Video in November 2024
A man stands in front of a caution sign.

James Patterson's Alex Cross character is getting a third chance in live-action this month on Amazon Prime Video. Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry have previously portrayed the titular detective character. Now, Black Adam's Aldis Hodge steps into the role. The new Cross series is Prime Video's biggest debut in November, but far from the only noteworthy addition. There are a lot of new additions to the streamer's movie lineup, including The Godfather trilogy, Silver Linings Playbook, and the unconventional vampire film Abigail.

Additionally, Prime Video is rebooting Cruel Intentions as a drama series, which has the potential to be another big hit for the streamer. And aside from Die Hard, there are only a handful of Christmas titles coming this month. We can appreciate a little restraint, especially since December will likely be a very different story.
