Keep dreaming you online-video-producing dreamers, one day your YouTube video could make you a star. A producer from Uruguay who uploaded one of his short films to YouTube last month has been offered a $30 million contract to make a Hollywood film. Fede Alverez’s short film “Ataque de Panico!” (Panic Attack!) is a brief, epic story of giant robots invading and destroying Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo. The short film is barely 5 minutes long and was made on a $300 budget, which once you watch it, you may find as impressive as we did.
“I uploaded (Panic Attack!) on a Thursday and on Monday my inbox was totally full of e-mails from Hollywood studios,” Alveraz told the BBC’s Latin American service BBC Mundo. Alvarez’s short film has received 1.5 million views since it was posted on YouTube this past November. The movie Alveraz has been asked to produce a science fiction film, which is to be shot in Uruguay and Argentina, and will require some original story development from the new producer. The movie is being sponsored by the Spiderman films director Sam Raimi.
“If some director from some country can achieve this just uploading a video to YouTube, it obviously means that anyone could do it,” says Alveraz.
