Just in time for Christmas, PlayStation Experience 2017 returns to Anaheim, California, this December. It a place for Sony fans to eat, breathe, and sleep PlayStation. Just like in previous years, it includes exclusive hands-on demos, game developer panels, rare collectibles, and more.

This year, according to PlayStation’s blog, Sony is bringing thousands of gamers to the Anaheim Convention Center to experience the latest games on PlayStation platforms. on December 9 and 10, fans can play demos utilizing PS4 Pros and large Sony 4K HDR TVs. Dozens of PlayStation VR will also be showcased during the event. Some of the greatest hands-on demos at last year’s PlayStation Experience included Resident Evil VII, Persona 5, and Pyre.

Also to come from PlayStation Experience 2017 are a number of game announcements and details. Both Knack II and The Last of Us: Part II were showcased at the 2016 event as reveal trailers.

Early-bird tickets are available in a limited supply. Those who are lucky enough to snag some gain an invitation to a special event on December 8, the night before PlayStation Experience. Details are slim on the event but ticket holders will have a chance to meet game developers and PlayStation personalities.

During PlayStation Experience, Capcom Cup 2017 will take place all day December 10 at a special tournament stage. That evening, the highest-level Street Fighter V players will compete in the Grand Finals for a chance to win $250,000 and the crown. More details on the competition will be shared later.

Additionally, Street Fighter V players are encouraged to download the 2017 Capcom Pro Tour DLC from the PlayStation Store. Proceeds from this $25 content go toward the Pro Tour and help boost the grand prize pool.

This year, only two-day tickets are available for PlayStation Experience 2017. Regular two-day tickets cost $75 while early-bird tickets go for the discounted price of $65. Sony recommends that ticket buyers register with their PSN ID before purchasing. Attendees must be 18 years or older. As Sony puts it, “No babies, no children, no exceptions.”

Over the coming weeks, Sony will have much more to share regarding the publishers, developers, games, and activities attendees can expect at the show.

It's been a very long time since the last PlayStation Showcase. While Sony has held tons of smaller State of Play streams over the years, it doesn't often host Nintendo Direct-sized events that give a wide picture of what's coming to the PS5. That'll change later today when the company hosts a proper PlayStation Showcase, just a few weeks before Summer Game Fest.

Details on what we'll see at the event are sparse, even hours ahead of the showcase, but there's a lot we can already predict. You won't want to miss out on this one, so here's everything you need to know so you can catch it when it right when it airs.

PlayStation Backbone controller gets an Android version ahead of PlayStation Showcase

A new Android version of the Backbone One -- PlayStation Edition is now available. The mobile controller brings the aesthetic of Sony's DualSense to Android phones.

Backbone One -- PlayStation Edition, a mobile gaming controller that copies the aesthetics of the PS5's DualSense, was first revealed and released in July 2022. At the time, though, only an iOS-compatible version of the mobile gaming controller was available. Now, Android users can pick up a version of the PS Backbone One that works with their phones. As its appearance and functionality are almost identical to the iOS version in almost every way, it's no surprise that the Backbone One -- PlayStation Edition for Android also costs $99.

Final Fantasy XVI’s first 3 hours play like a high fantasy Last of Us

When I demoed Final Fantasy XVI back in February, I had some questions. The slice I played was very much focused on the upcoming PS5 release’s combat system. I was immediately impressed with how fast and furious it was, bringing a bit of Devil May Cry to the RPG series. That said, there was quite a bit I didn’t see. The story mission I played would only give me a brief introduction to its hero, Clive Rosfield, and the war-torn nation in which the game takes place. I was itching to know more.

I’d get all those lingering questions answered when I went hands-on with the first three hours of the game, which launches on June 22. Rather than letting me test out an arsenal of spells, I’d start with a much less capable Clive with only a few attacks to his name. I’d get to see his full tragic backstory play out through long cinematics with only a few smaller gameplay snippets between. I’d leave my demo session with far fewer question marks, a bit more intrigue, and a couple of lingering concerns that could be alleviated later in the adventure.
