‘Call of Duty: WWII’ pays tributes to the heroes of war in new documentary

Official Call of Duty®: WWII – ‘Brotherhood of Heroes’ Documentary
Call of Duty: WWII features a horror-focused “zombies” mode as well as competitive multiplayer, but the heart of this year’s period piece shooter is its emotional campaign. In a new documentary short, Sledgehammer Games explained how the game uses its story to pay tribute to the heroes of World War II.

“I’ve devoted my life to studying the subject of the Second World War,” said historian Martin K.A. Morgan in the video. “I’m very fortunate in this career to follow the story of individuals who were willing to make a sacrifice for the bigger picture. They represented the greatest possibly bravery — the greatest possible courage — under the worst possible circumstances.”

Call of Duty: WWII features some of the most famous battles of the war, including the storming of Normandy, France, on D-Day, but Sledgehammer wanted to also highlight the battles subsequent generation might have never been told about, as well as the struggle of French citizens living under Nazi rule.

“This is an incredibly suffocating and stifling experience,” Morgan said. “But throughout all of it, the resilience of the Parisian people never faltered — never shuttered.”

While the Call of Duty series and its World War II installments have traditionally focused on enlisted servicemen, Call of Duty: WWII also includes a female French resistance fighter working to take back her homeland from the Germans. Elsewhere, we see the Battle of the Bulge at Ardennes, a bloody conflict which stood as Germany’s last-ditch effort to halt the advance of the Allies.

“The Second World War isn’t about you as an individual. This is about people. This is about an idea: The idea of freedom, and freedom from oppression,” Mordan added. “If people remember, people will memorialize. And if people memorialize, people won’t forget.”

It’s a tone that the Call of Duty series and Activision haven’t used in recent years as campaigns moved toward the fantastical, with Black Ops III simply using the name “Player” for its protagonist. We’ll see if Call of Duty: WWII can truly pay tribute to our fallen heroes when the game releases for

Xbox One

,

PlayStation 4

, and

PC

on November 3.

6 months after launch, is Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 worth playing?
is warzone 20 worth playing six months after launch 2 0

Six months after its initial release, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 has evolved tremendously, with many new features added as part of major updates. Despite this, the game still feels slightly unfinished in ways, lacking some of the features that made the original so great. Warzone 2.0 is a complex beast that may steer newcomers away, but if players can learn to master it, the battle royale can be a lot of fun, especially with a team.

But with so much competition in the battle royale space, is Warzone 2.0 worth your time six months later? Here's the current state of the popular shooter after a lot of retooling from Activision.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0’s overpowered new DMZ bundle ignites pay-to-win fears
Character calling in killstreak in Warzone 2.0.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 has struggled to retain players due to odd gameplay decisions and controversial mechanics that have divided the community. A new feature, though, has players especially up in arms.

Recently, publisher Activision released an in-game store bundle that some players consider a "pay-to-win" option, stirring up criticism once again. The paid bundle, "Roze and Thorn," gives DMZ players a free unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that temporarily reveals the locations of enemy players at the start of a match, immediately offering an advantage.

One-shot snipers are coming back to Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 for Season 3
Characters shooting enemies in Warzone 2.0.

The highly anticipated Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 Season 3 will include a long-requested feature that fans have been clamoring for. The update will feature the return of one-shot snipers, which have been absent from Warzone 2.0 since its launch (with a couple of temporary exceptions here and there). Activision shared the news via a blog post, which featured more details about what to expect from the upcoming season.

Previously, it would take at least two shots to down a fully-plated enemy in Warzone 2.0, which effectively rendered snipers useless. Since the game's launch in November 2022, a large portion of the community has requested that one-shot snipers be added back into the game. Activision's blog gives a bit of detail about what to expect from the chance.
