LG slashes the price of its Xboom speakers for Black Friday

Black Friday might still be a few days away, but that isn’t stopping LG from starting the savings right away. The company dropped the prices on its lineup of Xboom speakers, and the savings are significant: In some cases as much as 50 percent off the regular price. You can choose from the small but mighty Xboom Go PK3 (now just $50), or take your pick from the Go PK5 ($80), Go PK7 ($130), or the stay-at-home Google Assistant-powered WK7 ($130). We thought the WK7 was a good buy, even at $180, so $130 is a great deal. LG also dropped the price on its Xboom WK9 Smart Display by $100, which is now $200.

The Xboom line of speakers are all solid performers, but the portable Go series stand out thanks to some impressive features. Battery life is excellent for all three of these Bluetooth units, but the PK7 packs a whopping 22 hours of life — all the more amazing given that it’s the most powerful of the group. You will find IPX5 immersion resistance for water on the PK5 and PK7, while the PK3 proves it’s capable of even rougher use, at IPX7.

The larger PK5 and PK7 have integrated grab handles, making them much easier to tote around, while the smaller PK3 is svelte enough that you can grab the device comfortably without a handle.

Given that this category of speaker tends to be known as “party speakers,” it’s highly appropriate that both the PK5 and PK7 are capable of lighting up your get-together, with built-in LEDs that create custom light patterns in sync with your music. Each of the speakers is aptX HD compatible with the highest wireless sound quality, assuming your phone or tablet supports this standard.

Speaking of sound quality, there is one more thing you should know about LG’s Xboom products: They have been co-designed with Meridian Audio, the legendary English audio company, known for its class-leading speaker products. You will have to decide if this matters to you, but you will be hard-pressed to find another Bluetooth speaker with a similarly elite level of audio DNA.

LG prices its Flex, StanByMe TVs, and debuts a new model that doubles as magazine rack

2022 has been a big year for LG's TVs, as the company has moved well beyond traditional wall- or stand-mounted models, into new designs that are targeted at specific audiences like gamers and those who want their TVs to be more than just black rectangles on a wall.

The company had previously introduced us to the bendable OLED Flex and the touchscreen-based StanByMe, but now, as part of the company's presence at the CEDIA show in Dallas, TX, LG has told us how much they'll cost. LG is also taking the opportunity to introduce a new model in its Objet series, known as the Posé -- a quirky, easel-like TV that has space for things like magazines on its rear shelf.

Sony’s SRS-XV900 pumps its party speaker lineup to the next level

If you're looking to dazzle your next gathering with huge sound, a light show, and perhaps some karaoke, Sony's new SRS-XV900 might be just the party speaker you're looking for. Sony says it's the most powerful and loudest party speaker in its X-Series range of Bluetooth speakers. It goes up for pre-order on September 20 on electronics.sony.com for $900, but will also be available at Amazon and BestBuy.

The tower-like SRS-XV900 mirrors the design of the company's existing SRS-XP500 and XP700, but on a much bigger scale. You get many of the same features, but where the XP700 measures just over 27 inches in height and tips the scales at about 37 pounds, the XV900 stands 34 inches tall and weighs a bicep-shattering 58 pounds. All of that extra size and weight explains why Sony has given the XV900 a set of built-in wheels at its base -- you will want to do as little carrying of this beast as possible.

LG updates its XBoom 360 speaker with better sound, battery, and water resistance

We were pretty impressed by LG's XBoom 360 portable party speaker when we put one to the test earlier in 2022, but despite the good tunes and fun lighting, we noticed a few places where it could improve. Battery life, at just 10 hours seemed meager, and what's a portable Bluetooth speaker without the ability to take a splash or two?

Looks like LG took our comments to heart. The latest addition to the XBoom family is the $300 XBoom 360 X03, a much more robust speaker in every way, that still keeps the original's unique shape, 360 sound, and customizable light effects. LG says it's available to order immediately from LG's website and authorized retailers, but at publication time, we couldn't find any links to do so.
