While most people are keen on getting the latest flagship model on a smartphone, there are budget-friendly options that should suit the same purpose of staying connected. Apple and Samsung may go head to head in the high-end market but if you’re looking for an equitable midrange phone for casual use then the LG Q6 is a safe and solid bet
With the LG Q6 unofficially titled as the LG G6 Mini, you can expect it to somewhat look and feel the same as the 2017 flagship model, the LG G6, at a much more affordable price point. You’ll particularly appreciate that the Q6 despite its fairly low price doesn’t look cheap with thin bezels and what LG calls a FullVision display. Its 5.5-inch screen boasts an 18:9 aspect ratio under Corning Gorilla Glass 3. While most midrange phones typically have a 1,920 x 1,080-pixel resolution, the Q6 takes it a notch higher at 2,160 x 1,080, for 446 pixels per inch. There is no doubt that you’re in for quite an immersive viewing experience when streaming multimedia content.
The Q6 is sparked to life with a 3,000mAh battery that can last you a full day and powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 1.4 GHz octa-core processor. With 3GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage expandable to 2TB of microSD, you should be able to enjoy a fluid interface most of the time. However, you may experience a bit of lag and heat up when running multiple apps.
Low light may be its weak point but the LG Q6 flaunts a capable shooter nonetheless especially on a budget phone. There is much to tinker with its 13MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash. With cool interface features, GIF and food modes, plus an innovative dual capture that staple two squared-off images together, the Q6 is an all-around fun camera. The front-facing camera, on the other hand, is at 5MP and though it’s not the best out there, you’ll be able to seamlessly switch from a regular to a wide-angle presentation.
The LG Q6 is a competent midrange phone that would surely give you quite the bang for your buck as it can easily be mistaken for the more premium LG G6. The Q6 sports ergonomic features at 142mm long and 69mm wide encased in an aluminum chassis. Overall, it makes for a lightweight construction that is comfortable to hold. Two things you’d wish they incorporated in the Q6’s design is a fingerprint sensor and a better alternative to its scratch-prone plastic finish. Either way, it shouldn’t be a dealbreaker as it compensates with facial recognition, and it’s nothing a good case won’t fix. Grab the LG Q6
