OnePlus 7T Pro vs. OnePlus 7T: Find out what makes it Pro

The OnePlus 7T is everything we’ve come to expect from a OnePlus phone — it’s powerful, well-designed, attractive, and affordable. But there’s another new phone from the company to consider in the shape of the OnePlus 7T Pro. Last time only the OnePlus 7 Pro made it to the states, while the OnePlus 7 went to other markets. This year that’s been reversed, so only the OnePlus 7T is available stateside, while the OnePlus 7T Pro is being offered in other markets like such as the United Kingdom. If you’re trying to decide between them, or just curious what the difference is, then we have you covered with this spec comparison which will drill into all the details.

Performance, battery life, and charging

Andy Boxall/Digitaltrends

With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor and an ample 8GB of RAM, the OnePlus 7T Pro and OnePlus 7T are among the most powerful Android phones you can get right now. They’ll run the latest games flawlessly, jump in and out apps instantly, and should run smoothly for quite some time to come.

The 7T Pro has a slightly bigger battery, but it also has a slightly larger, higher-resolution screen to power, so we don’t think there’s going to be much difference in stamina here. They both support fast wired charging via the USB-C port with the Warp Charge 30T charger that comes in the box; it can put out an impressive 30W to charge the 7T from zero to 70% in just 30 minutes. There’s no wireless charging, and there’s nothing to separate these two phones in this category.

Winner: Tie

Design and durability

There are some interesting differences between the 7T and the 7T Pro in the design department. While both have a triple-lens camera on the back, the Pro has gone for a central, vertically stacked set of lenses in a lozenge shape, while the 7T has a distinctive circular camera module. Both are curved glass with a sheen that catches the light. The 7T Pro is only available in Haze Blue, while the 7T comes in Glacier Blue or Frosted Silver. You’ll find more differences around front, where the 7T Pro offers a slightly larger screen that’s completely free of any notches or holes because the selfie camera pops up from the top edge when activated. The 7T has a more conventional front-facing camera in a teardrop notch at the top. There’s no sign of any fingerprint sensor because they both have an in-display fingerprint scanner. The 7T’s screen is flat and it’s not quite as wide as the 7T Pro’s which has curved edges.

While neither phone has an official IP rating for water resistance, they can likely handle light rain or splashes, just not full immersion. Both will benefit from a protective case because they’re glass front and back. There isn’t really much of a difference in durability, but the 7T Pro has a classier, more modern design.

Winner: OnePlus 7T Pro

Both the OnePlus 7T Pro and the OnePlus 7T feature Fluid AMOLED screens with silky-smooth 90Hz refresh rates, while most phones refresh at 60Hz, but this category is an easy win for the Pro because its screen is bigger and sharper. While the size difference isn’t huge, the higher resolution works out to 516 pixels per inch (PPI) for the Pro while it’s 402 PPI for the regular 7T. Because the Pro features a pop-up camera instead of a teardrop notch, it also boasts an expanse of uninterrupted screen.

Winner: OnePlus 7T Pro

Camera

The OnePlus 7T Pro boasts a triple-lens main camera comprising a 48-megapixel IMX586 sensor with an f/1.6 aperture, plus optical and electronic stabilization (OIS and EIS), an ultra-wide lens with a 117-degree field of vision, 16-megapixels, and an f/2.2 aperture, and finally, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with OIS and an f/2.4 aperture. The main camera in the OnePlus 7T is mostly the same, except that the telephoto lens is rated at 12-megapixels and it has an f/2.2 aperture, but it doesn’t have OIS.

The selfie camera is inside a pop-up module in the 7T Pro and in the teardrop notch with the 7T, but it’s the same 16-megapixel lens with EIS and an f/2.0 aperture.

Both cameras feature Nightscape for low-light photography with the main or ultra-wide-angle lens, they have a new macro mode for close-ups, and they offer super-slow-motion video recording. It’s tough to pick a winner here as the difference is so slight and we think they’ll produce pretty similar results.

Winner: Tie

Software and updates

The OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro run Android 10 with Oxygen OS on top. It’s accessible and runs well, offering a lot of extra options without straying too far from the feel of Google’s Android. You can customize various bits and pieces and there are options like Zen Mode, which shuts off notifications to give you some quiet time when you need it. OnePlus has also upped its update game, pushing out software updates and patches relatively quickly. The exact same software runs on both and we expect them to have a similar update schedule.

Special features

The screen’s 90Hz refresh rate is a bit special, but they both have that. It’s a similar story with the in-display fingerprint sensor, facial recognition, gaming mode, and other software extras like Zen Mode. One thing that could maybe edge it for the OnePlus 7T Pro is that nifty pop-up camera. It’s fast, it feels solid, and it’s a relatively new innovation.

Winner: OnePlus 7T Pro

Price and availability

The OnePlus 7T is available worldwide now for $600. The OnePlus 7T Pro costs 699 British pounds (around $860). Sadly, it won’t be coming to the United States, but will come to the U.K., Europe, China, Hong Kong, and India.

Overall winner: OnePlus 7T Pro

The superior screen is enough to score a win for the OnePlus 7T Pro and we prefer the design in general, it’s just a classier, more modern feeling device, especially with that mechanized pop-up camera module on top. But make no mistake, these phones are very similar indeed and you are not missing much if you opt for the regular OnePlus 7T, which will also save you a chunk of change.

The OnePlus 11 is launching on February 7 with two fan-favorite features
Event teaser for The OnePlus 11 "Cloud 11" event.

OnePlus is planning on starting the new year off with a bang by revealing the much-anticipated OnePlus 11. Launching on February 7 during the company's annual first-quarter showcase, the OnePlus 11 boasts the return of two user-favorite features: the company's signature alert slider and Hasselblad photography integration — both of which were absent on the OnePlus 10T.

Although OnePlus is still keeping most of the official details about the OnePlus 11 under wraps until February, there have been plenty of leaks and rumors surrounding the phone — and they've painted it as a worthy successor to the OnePlus 10T, the company's most recent flagship.

OnePlus 11’s controversial design returns in new ‘official’ renders
Renders of the OnePlus 11 in black and green.

The OnePlus 11 Pro was slated to be the next OnePlus flagship for early 2023. However, as per a new report from Gadget Gang (in association with reliable tipster @OnLeaks), the leaked OnePlus 11 Pro in the past is in fact, the OnePlus 11, which will be the flagship for early 2023. Apart from that, we also have our first look at the 'official' renders of the next OnePlus flagship. It looks like the company is iterating the design from its 2022 designs, with controversial results.

According to the latest renders, OnePlus is taking inspiration from Samsung of 2021 by extending the camera module to the side of the OnePlus 11. The new design is likely to stir some debate around the looks of the device. Meanwhile, the Hasselblad logo is now in the middle of the camera module, which looks odd. The optics include a three-lens camera system accompanied by an LED flash. The OnePlus 11 is said to be made available in Forest Emerald and Volcanic Black color options. As per the renders, the back seems to have a matte finish.
