You can now use voice control for Sling TV on Google Nest devices

Sling TV has long allowed you to watch your favorite shows live or stream them using your television or handheld device, but you couldn’t use your voice to control the service until now. On Wednesday, Google announced that if you have a subscription to Sling, you can use voice commands to watch all of your favorite shows on your Google Nest devices. Even more exciting, you can now watch on more devices. If you have a Google device with a screen, like the Nest Hub Max, you can watch your favorite shows just like you would on your phone or tablet.

“Sling TV allows you to watch your favorite shows live or stream on portable devices. Watch live football games, don’t miss a float during the Thanksgiving Day Parade, and keep up with breaking news,” Google employee Rachel Chambers said in an announcement. “Using a remote to flip channels and pause the TV is so 2018. With Sling now on Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max, you can control Sling with your voice.”

Before you get started, there’s a little setup required — don’t worry, it won’t take long. Access your Sling subscription on your Nest Hub by opening the Google Home app. Then, go to the Settings menu and select Video and Photos under Add Services. From there, find Sling in the list and tap on it. Follow the prompts to link your account and you’re done. To start watching, say, “Hey Google, watch (pick your favorite channel) on Sling.” You can also say things like “pause,” “play,” or “skip forward 30 seconds” to control your watching experience. If you have a Nest Hub Max, you can also hold up your hand to pause or resume content.
If you’re not a Sling member yet, you can try it out for free for a limited time. Google is offering a free 3-day trial if you sign up using the Google Home app. Still not sure you want to get a subscription to Sling or go with one of its competitors? Google Calendar’s ‘Focus Time’ can now deny unwanted meetings for you
google calendar focus time android

Google Calendar is getting a new Focus Time feature that will be useful for people who get a lot of meeting invites and don't have the time to attend all of them. Focus Time will now automatically deny meetings for you in a selected time slot. The feature works by indicating the working status of users, making it easier to block out time for focused individual work.

In a blog post, Google wrote that it hopes to make it easier to create dedicated time for thinking and core work for users. Focus time is said to function a lot like an Out of Office event. You can now set Focus Time on Google Calendar. It is indicated by a small headphones icon, which can be customized in terms of color so each entry looks different from one and another.

Skyworth’s $1,200 XC9000 Series is now the cheapest OLED TV you can buy
Skyworth's XC9000 4K OLED TV.

OLED TVs have routinely topped our lists of the best TVs you can buy, thanks to their perfect blacks, gorgeous colors, ultrawide viewing angles, and impressive gaming performance. But inch for inch, they're still very expensive, which is why it's worth taking note of the Skyworth XC9000 Series that just made its U.S. debut on Amazon. Staring at $1,200 for the 55-inch model, Skyworth has managed to undercut the 55-inch Vizio OLED TV by $100, making it the most affordable 4K OLED TV you can buy.

Also available is a 65-inch model that costs $1,700 -- once again, that's $100 cheaper than the 65-inch Vizio OLED TV. Skyworth and Vizio get their OLED panels from LG Display, the same company that provides OLED panels to LG Electronics and Sony. Does that mean Skyworth's OLED TVs will look as good as those from LG and Sony? Possibly, but given how important a company's picture-processing and related technologies are, using the same panels is far from a guarantee.

If you've been doing any research on today's leading smart displays, two names that often rise to the top are Amazon and Google. Amazon's Echo Show 10 is the company's latest and most advanced smart display to hit the market. Then, there's the second-generation Google Nest Hub, a rival display with its own great set of features and a smaller profile.
