The 5 best tech deals in the Kohl’s Memorial Day Sale

We’re fully in the thick of this year’s Memorial Day sales as the holiday weekend draws closer, and given all the fantastic bargains we’ve already seen so far on just about everything under the sun. We’re all about the tech deals here, though, and while Kohl’s might not have the name recognition of Best Buy or Walmart when it comes to discounts on electronics, the Kohl’s Memorial Day Sale has some worthy price cuts on some of our favorite gadgets. Here, we’ve rounded up our top five tech deals from the Kohl’s Memorial Day Sale. If you’re shopping for some other stuff, too, then you can knock another $10 off your order with the checkout code SERVICE10, but note that this coupon is not applicable to our picks below.

Roku Ultra

— $80, was $100

Roku Ultra 2019

Smart TVs are great, but if you’re perfectly happy with the “dumb” television and just want to add streaming capabilities to it, then Roku is still the way to go. The aptly named Roku Ultra is arguably the best of the bunch: It supports content at up to 4K HDR resolution (dependent on your TV’s output capabilities, naturally) and easily connects to any television with an HDMI port. It’s also compatible with a myriad of streaming apps and services and allows you to access popular ones like Netflix, Hulu, Sling, and ESPN+ with the press of a button. A $20 markdown means you can grab the Roku Ultra and start streaming for just $80.

Google Nest Thermostat E

— $140, was $170

Among the many smart home devices now on the market, none are as overlooked as the thermostat. A smart thermostat like the excellent Google Nest E can actually pay for itself via the energy savings it can give you over time. The Nest Thermostat E gives you full control of your home’s heating and cooling system, and you can use the Nest companion app to monitor everything in real time, set schedules, and even see how much you’re saving. The Nest E can also use your phone’s location to automatically adjust itself when you’re out of the house. A $30 discount lets you add the Nest Thermostat E to your smart home ecosystem for $140.

Garmin Forerunner 45

— $150, was $200

Garmin makes some of the best outdoor smartwatches and fitness trackers that money can buy, and it has created what might be a nearly perfect running watch in the Forerunner 45. It packs an impressive suite of running-related tracking features including a built-in GPS as well as apps for other activities such as cycling. Like other smartwatches, it also syncs with your phone to deliver messages right to your wrist, while Garmin Coach can give you personalized training plans to help you hit your goals. The Kohl’s Memorial Day sale has knocked $50 off the price, letting you add the Garmin Forerunner 45 to your workout kit for $150.

Powerbeats Pro

— $200, was $250

True wireless earbuds are all the rage nowadays, but many of the most popular ones (such as the Apple AirPods) are not designed with outdoor activities in mind. Enter the Powerbeats Pro: These Bluetooth buds are purpose-built for all your adventures thanks to their extremely secure in-ear fit and water-resistant housing. They also deliver fantastic sound along with generous nine-hour battery life, something that’s often a sticking point with wireless earphones. A $50 savings means you can grab a pair of Powerbeats Pro with charging case for $200 through Memorial Day.

Google Nest Cam IQ

— $230, was $300

Nest Cam IQ sitting on a desk next to car keys and books

As with smart thermostats, security is one niche where smart home technology has a lot to offer, and the indoor Google Nest Cam IQ is a great way to keep an eye on things around the house. You can set it up pretty much anywhere and monitor it remotely from your phone, tablet, or another device, and the Nest Cam IQ will alert you when it detects any suspicious activity. It can also automatically track and zoom in on intruders and features two-way voice chat. With Google Assistant built right in, the Nest Cam IQ is easy to integrate into a wider smart home ecosystem just like the Nest Thermostat E. One of our (very few) complaints with the indoor Nest Cam IQ was its relatively steep price, but the Kohl’s Memorial Day Sale has it marked down to $230 right now after a very nice $70 discount.
