Sony to explore releasing more first-party PlayStation games to PC

Sony is thinking about releasing more first-party games made for the PlayStation on the PC, after a port of the former PlayStation 4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn was launched earlier this year.

In its Corporate Report 2020, Sony said that Sony Interactive Entertainment, the division that handles the PlayStation, “will explore expanding our 1st party titles to the PC platform, in order to promote further growth in our profitability.”

The plan to bring more first-party PlayStation games to the PC is among the strategic key points for Sony’s Game and Network Services, which also includes accelerating the enhancement and rollout of exclusive PlayStation games, creating game experiences that were not previously possible through the PlayStation 5, and promoting a smooth transition to the next-generation console.

This does not necessarily mean that all first-party games for the PlayStation will also launch, or will eventually roll out, for PC. Sony’s strategy for which titles to port remains unclear though, so PC players will just have to wait for further announcements.

Digital Trends has reached out to Sony to try for more details about the plan to port more first-party games to PC, and we will update this article as soon as we hear back.

Horizon Zero Dawn on PC

Horizon Zero Dawn, which was launched as a PlayStation 4 exclusive on February 2017, launched for the PC earlier this month. It was not just a straight port though, as it contained several improvements for the platform jump.

Unfortunately, the game’s release was marred with crashes and other technical issues such as low-quality graphics, random stuttering, skewed cameras, and unresponsive controllers.

Ghost of Yotei: release date window, trailers, gameplay, and more

Ghost of Tsushima was an outstanding game to end the PS4 generation with. Sucker Punch chose to pivot to a new IP far divorced from its past Infamous or Sly Cooper games and focus on a more grounded and historically influenced game about the Mongol invasion of the island of Tsushima. Naturally, we all expected a continuation of the story since that was just one small component of that conflict. Indeed we will get another entry, but not in the way we all expected. Ghost of Yotei has been revealed and is making some big changes, but also holding true to what Sucker Punch believes to be the core of the series. Let's follow the wind together to find out all we can about this upcoming PS5 game.
Release date window

For now, all we know is that Ghost of Yotei is expected to come out at some point in 2025. Considering the game has no specific window, we would predict this means it is likely coming in the second half of the year and likely be PlayStation's big fall or winter release. Once we know more, we will update you.

A Horizon online game is reportedly in the works ahead of Forbidden West follow-up

The Horizon series is seemingly everywhere right now, with Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and Lego Horizon Adventures on the way, and there's more in the pipeline beyond just the expected third entry in the main series. Bloomberg video game reporter Jason Schreier reports that the next franchise game won't be that third game, but rather an online project that "a lot of people" are working on.

"Horizon online is their next project not whatever the third single-player game looks like, so that one might be a ways off," Schreier said on the Spawn Wave podcast over the weekend. The conversation starts at around 54:27.
