How to watch Soul online in the U.S.

Soul | Official Trailer

Disney+ is the go-to streaming service for all things in the House of Mouse. That doesn’t just mean Disney movies — it also includes other properties owned by Disney, such as Marvel and Star Wars. Disney has even secured broadcasting rights to other productions such as the award-winning Broadway musical Hamilton and the entire 30-year catalog of The Simpsons. Pixar movies naturally fall under that umbrella too, with Disney+ being the exclusive outlet for streaming the beloved animation studio’s latest production, Soul.

Soul tells the story of Joe Gardner, voiced by Jamie Foxx, a middle-school music teacher with a passion for jazz and dreams of becoming a performer. He almost realizes his dream when he performs impressively during an opening act at a local jazz club, but shortly after, an accident separates his soul from his body. Instead of going to the Great Beyond, however, Gardner’s soul manages to escape to the Great Before — a place where spirits grow before being sent to Earth. There, Gardner meets other souls including the pessimistic 22 (voiced by Tina Fey), and tries to show her why life is worth living. In the process, Joe has to re-think what it means to truly have soul, all the while figuring out a way to get back to his body before it dies.

Soul was originally going to be a theatrical release, but the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic caused Disney to reschedule it for digital release exclusively on its own streaming platform on Christmas Day. If you want to watch Pixar’s latest film, then now’s the time tosign up for Disney+ or grab the Disney+ Bundle so you can see for yourself why Soul is already racking up accolades from critics. Disney+ alone costs just $7 per month or $70 per year, but you can also grab the Disney+ Bundle which gets you Disney’s streaming service along with Hulu (ad-supported) and ESPN+ for just $13 per month, saving you 25%.

15 years ago, Pixar’s Wall-E painted a terrifying picture of our AI future
WALL-E looks at cubes of trash.

“A is for Axiom, your home sweet home. B is for Buy N Large, your very best friend.” — An AI schoolteacher in Wall-E.

On its surface, the space adventure Wall-E is just another pleasant Pixar production — one that tells a relatively simple story about a romance between its titular trash compactor and the high-tech droid he crosses paths with on Earth. In case its dystopian, trash-covered version of Earth wasn’t enough of a hint, though, there’s more going on in Wall-E than you might initially think. Not only does the film find a way to make a pointed message about the apocalyptic danger of climate change, but it also packs in a warning about the true threat of artificial intelligence.

Is Elemental streaming on Disney+?
Ember and Wade in Pixar's Elemental.

Pixar loves its high concepts, and concepts don't get much higher than Element City in the studio's latest release, Elemental. Element City is a place where very human-like elemental beings of water, Earth, and fire live side-by-side. But by their very nature, water and fire can't touch without turning the water into steam. That doesn't stop an immigrant from Fire Town, Ember Lumen (Leah Lewis), from starting a romantic relationship with Wade Ripple (Mamoudou Athie), a water being who is head over heels in love with her.

Ronnie del Carmen also lends his voice to the film alongside Shila Ommi, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Catherine O'Hara, Mason Wertheimer, Ronobir Lahiri, Wilma Bonet, Joe Pera, Matt Yang King, Jeff LaPensee, Ben Morris, Alex Kapp, Jonathan Adams, and P.L. Brown. Peter Sohn directed Elemental and came up with the story alongside the film's screenwriters John Hoberg, Kat Likkel, and Brenda Hsueh.

How to watch the DC movies in order
Barry Allen in the Flash suit looking to the distance in The Flash.

DC movies are in a weird place right now. Four of the DC Extended Universe films are being released this year, and two of them, Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash, have already hit theaters. What makes it strange is that the DCEU as we know it is going to come to an end with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in December 2023. In 2025, James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios films will start the new DC Universe with Superman: Legacy, which will be a true fresh start for the franchise.

Where does that leave fans of the DCEU? All of those DC movies are still on Max (formerly HBO), and those films aren't going anywhere unless Warner Bros. Discovery really wants another huge tax break. That means you can watch any and all of them at a moment's notice, except for The Flash which has only just hit theaters. As for the rest, you have two options to watch them in order: Chronologically or by release date. And in this post, we'll give you the correct order for both.
