Ring tackles the entry-level market with its most affordable doorbell yet

Ring has launched its most affordable and smallest doorbell yet. For just $60, the Ring Video Doorbell Wired is packed with all of the features users have come to expect.

It’s a smart move given how rival Wyze introduced its video doorbell not too long ago for $30. A smart doorbell acts as your first line of defense, providing you with a clear view of any visitor and allowing you to keep an eye on packages dropped off at your home.

The Ring Video Doorbell Wired streams live video and records at 1080p with built-in night vision. You can speak to anyone that pays you a visit thanks to two-way audio, and the noise cancellation feature means that road noise or loud birdsong won’t affect your ability to hear what is being said. You can also set up customizable motion zones. Passing vehicles or people on the sidewalk will not trigger your doorbell unless you want them to — the zones can be set up so that only someone walking up your steps or onto your porch sets it off.

If there is a particular area you don’t want the camera to monitor or record, you can set up custom Privacy Zones. The Ring Video Doorbell Wired will ignore any activity or motion within these zones, ensuring your personal privacy. You can use the Advanced Motion Detection feature to know when someone walks within a certain distance of the doorbell.

Additional privacy and protection features are available through Ring Protect, including Color Pre-Roll, People Only Mode, and Rich Notifications. Ring Protect starts at $3 per month. While these features are extras, their added benefits can be worthwhile to many users.

The Ring Video Doorbell Wired is, like it sounds, a wired doorbell. Once installed, the doorbell can be controlled through Amazon Alexa. For instance, you can request that Alexa show you the doorbell’s display on your Echo Show, or speak through any connected Echo device to a visitor at the door. Alternatively, the $100 Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) satisfies the need for a wireless video doorbell thanks to its built-in battery.

This smart doorbell is available for pre-order now and is expected to begin shipping on February 24. It is available online at Amazon and Ring.com, and will be available in-store at Home Depot for $60. You might say that the lineup’s now complete with this latest addition, providing consumers with variety based on their needs.
