The world sadly lost a comedic gem and television icon when Betty White passed away just a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday at the end of 2021. Considered a pioneer of early television, White continued to work well into her 90s. Her career included roles in ground-breaking shows like The Golden Girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, while she was a mainstay on the 1980s game show circuit. In her later years, White earned an Emmy for hosting Saturday Night Live and voiced characters in movies like Toy Story 4 and The Lorax. This documentary, released in 2018 prior to her death, chronicles White’s life and work, with interviews from friends and co-stars and hilarious behind-the-scenes clips. It’s a great way to honor one of the best female comedic talents of this generation.[/dt_media]
Travel back to 1980 and enjoy some laughs this month with this comedy that starred Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dolly Parton as working women who band together to take down their sexist boss. The film, which was a box office success, spawned a TV series spin-off and helped launch Parton’s mainstream singing and acting career. Not only will you get a lighthearted look at some fierce and determined characters who define the ’80s and the women’s working movement, shoulder pads and all, but the theme song has become a working woman’s anthem of sorts.[/dt_media]
