Rainbow Six Quarantine officially renamed to Extraction

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine now has a new name, as revealed by Ubisoft. It is now called Rainbow Six Extraction, and will be shown during the E3 Ubisoft Forward event later this month.

This news comes by way of the game’s official Twitter account, which featured a short video revealing the game’s new name and what to expect from its showcase during E3. The team at Ubisoft was careful not to spoil anything about the game ahead of the Ubisoft Forward event, but the game’s producer, Antoine Vimal du Monteil, did note that it has “grown a lot” since its announcement in 2019.

The game was initially revealed as Rainbow Six Quarantine, but was likely changed due to the events of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was originally supposed to launch much sooner, but Ubisoft delayed it at the end of 2020, citing the pandemic as one of the major factors for postponing its release.

Ubisoft explained the game’s title, Extraction, by confirming that players will need to extract people from missions, with an emphasis on making sure no one gets left behind.

Vimal du Monteil says players will be tasked with learning about the game’s “parasite, how to overcome it, and protecting each other every step of the way.” This is in line with its initial announcement, wherein cooperative play is a major priority. It’s unclear how this extraction process will tie into the game, but we’ll likely see more during its gameplay reveal during the Ubisoft Forward.

The company’s Ubisoft Forward event will air at noon PT/3 p.m. ET on June 12 , when we’ll find out more about Rainbow Six Extraction.

Operators prepare to move into sub zone in Rainbow Six Extraction.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction features 12 different objectives to complete while out on incursions. Each incursion chooses three random objectives for players to complete to earn XP. Rainbow Six Extraction: How to rescue MIA Operators
Operators prepare to move into sub zone in Rainbow Six Extraction.

The new threat, called Archaeans, in Rainbow Six Extraction are more than just mindless alien parasite things. These creepy creatures have begun infecting and taking over various regions in the world, which are the zones you and your team are sent into to complete various tasks in the hopes of finding a way to get rid of them once and for all. Your team consists of a total of 18 iconic Operators taken from Rainbow Six Siege, only now made a part of the Rainbow Exogenous Analysis and Containment Team, or REACT for short. You can select your Operator of choice and go on these missions solo, or in a team of up to three others. These Archaeans aren't messing around, though, and failing to extract is bound to happen sooner or later.

Unlike in Rainbow Six Siege, Operators don't immediately come back to life if they get taken out during a mission. If you lose your favorite character, they're gone until you rescue them by going on a special MIA Rescue mission. These aren't easy, and can be even harder if you've lost your most powerful Operator.

Rainbow Six Extraction: How to grind XP fast
A squad looks at a red alien spore in Rainbow Six Extraxction.

The loop of Rainbow Six Extraction is very different from the game it's based on, Rainbow Six Siege. Instead of everything resetting between rounds, Rainbow Six Extraction has permanent progression and unlocks that allow you and your squad to take on the game's tougher difficulty levels a bit easier. Each Operator in the game has their own individual level, with gear and skills to unlock as you get more XP, but you also have an overall level. These are both important to increase, but the game isn't always generous with dishing out XP.

You only start with nine of the 18 Operators in Rainbow Six Extraction and have to unlock the rest via leveling up. Additionally, the Operators you do have all have individual levels that need to be raised by using them. That would be simple enough, but because you can't always use the same Operator all the time, you will want to maximize how much XP you get while they are fit and ready for action. We've scanned all the intel and made a safe extraction to bring you the best ways to grind XP fast in Rainbow Six Extraction.
