Sega Revives Dreamcast Games in HD on Xbox, PlayStation

Sega’s has announced that several of the titles from its 650-game library from the Dreamcast days will be receiving an HD facelift, before going on sale through the Xbox Live and PlayStation Networks. The first two titles, Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi, will both be available this fall.

The Dreamcast debuted in 1999 as a competitor to Sony’s PlayStation 2, Nintendo’s Gamecube, and Microsoft’s Xbox. The system sold only 10.6 million units before Sega opted to abandon consoles in favor of software in 2002, but the Dreamcast retains a loyal following and enjoys a minor cult status.

“The Dreamcast is fondly remembered by a large community of dedicated fans as a console that was ahead of its time in terms of graphics, quality and online gaming.” Haruki Satomi, VP of Digital Business at SEGA of America and SEGA Europe said in the press release. “There are few things that are more requested from us than making Dreamcast classics available for download in today’s digital market place. We’re very excited to begin offering gamers our beloved Dreamcast titles again on the current console systems.”

No word on what other games may receive the HD treatment, but Sega will feature both games at its E3 booth.

After Freedom Wars, this PlayStation Vita classic deserves a remaster

If there’s one thing that the PlayStation Vita delivered, it was great Monster Hunter clones after Capcom’s hit series jumped ship from PSP to Nintendo 3DS. The list included games like Koei Tecmo’s Toukiden, Bandai Namco’s God Eater, and Gungho’s Ragnarok Odyssey Ace. While these mission-based games were perfect fit for the Vita’s pick-up-and-play lifestyle, they were also available on PS3.

Sony Japan even joined into the fray with the 2015 Vita exclusive Freedom Wars, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a remaster on modern platforms next January, courtesy of Bandai Namco. It's an enhanced version of 2013's Soul Sacrifice that added more content and gameplay adjustments.

Soul Sacrifice Delta was released in 2014 and designed by Keiji Inafune (yes, the auteur behind the infamous Mighty No. 9). It plays like how you’d expect from a Monster Hunter-like action game. It’s an engaging gameplay loop that makes sure you’re always prepared to fight increasingly stronger monsters.
