Sony Announces New Streaming Music Service for PS3 and PSP

Sony has announced that a new “cloud-based digital music service” is coming soon for the PlayStation 3 and the PSP, and it will be out before the end of the year. According to Joystiq, the service will be called “Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity”, and it will be a direct rival to Microsoft’s Zune Pass.

The service will be compatible with Bravia TVs, Blu-ray players, home theaters and Sony Vaios, all with one account. The music software is expected to be a subscription-based model, but no word yet on pricing structures.

The Music Unlimited program is said to access “millions of songs,” but the specifics, including which artists and companies Sony has inked deals with, are going to be announced in the future.

More games will be added to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog in less than a week, so now is the best time to catch up on some July additions you might have missed. Last month was a surprisingly strong one for the service, as it got plenty of compelling additions across all fronts. While additions like Remnant II and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion garnered the most attention as the highest-profile releases, several games that are more underrated than those slipped into PS Plus' game catalog at the same time. As such, I'm recommending three of those games to people looking for something to play on PS Plus this weekend.
No More Heroes 3

No More Heroes 3 is a ridiculous game from eccentric game developer Suda51 and his development studio Grasshopper Manufacture. It's an entertaining action game with hilarious writing and an enjoyable story about Travis Touchdown working his way up the Galactic Superhero Rankings to take on an alien prince named FU. What really gives the No More Heroes games their distinct flair is the fact that they aren't afraid to get meta. No More Heroes 3 will constantly call out the player directly and will sometimes even change up its gameplay, so it's better that I don't spoil that much and just recommend that you go and check this one out for yourself. No More Heroes 3 is available on PS4 and PS5 through the PS Plus Premium and Extra Game Catalog. It's also on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

The best PSP games of all time

Sony's first crack at a handheld system needed to compete with the best DS games if it was going to stand a chance. Unlike Nintendo's dual-screen system, the PlayStation Portable played it straight by simply offering as close to a console-level experience as you could get on the go and prioritizing power over gimmicks. In that way, it was able to release games that looked almost as good as the best PS2 games.

The PSP library was incredibly strong. Just about every PlayStation franchise at the time had some form of representation here, plus a suite of third-party games. Even though it was limited to just one analog stick, developers were able to design around the controls to make some of the best games of all time.

The PlayStation 3 had a rough start. The price was high, and there weren't all that many great games compared to the best Xbox 360 games. However, Sony stuck with it and eventually managed to turn things around, leading to one of the most important generations in terms of new IP. Since that time, video game graphics and gameplay have only gotten more realistic with the best PS4 games and even better with the best PS5 games.
