Motorola Defy Android Smartphone Coming to T-Mobile

Phone makers are hoping smartphones will be high on consumers’ wish lists for the 2010 holiday season, and to that end Motorola is launching a media blitz for its forthcoming Motorola Defy Android handset. The Defy will feature a 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen, a 5 megapixel camera, Android 2.2 “Froyo” with Flash-enabled Web browsing, and Motorola’s Motoblur shell designed to bring folk’s most-used stuff—and social networking to the phone’s front screen. The Defy will be launching on T-Mobile in time for the holidays—and it’s starting its 15 minutes of fame with a cameo on the 25th season opener of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

“Defy is designed to handle everything that life throws your way,” said Motorola Mobility chief marketing officer Bill Ogle, in a statement. “With all the features consumers expect in a smartphone, Defy packs Web browsing, entertainment, and messaging capabilities as well as an exterior design that can withstand the stresses of everyday life.”

The Defy will feature DNLA connectivity, so users will be able to share content with DLNA-compatible PCs, HDTVs, game consoles, and other devices throughout their homes. Motorola is also touting the Defy as water resistant and dust-proof: the handset also has two microphones to offer intelligent noise cancellation for clear calling. The camera features an LED flash and autofocus.

Motorola and T-Mobile are being coy about is price and availability: the companies are saying only that the phone will be available in time for the holidays, with no specific price point mentioned. Customers in learning more about the Defy as it gets closer to market can sign up for updates on the Motorola Web site.
