Skyrim celebrates its 10th anniversary with yet another re-release

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, a next-gen version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is in the works and will launch on November 11. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition — as it’s called — serves as yet another re-release of the popular 2011 game, this time for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Though, it’s important to note the Anniversary Edition will also launch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

This news comes by way of the Quakecon livestream on the official Bethesda Twitch account. As relayed to us by Nibellion on Twitter, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition will offer a free next-gen upgrade and will include new features as well.

The Anniversary Edition will include over 500 Creation Club elements made by the community and will introduce fishing, which wasn’t present in any other version of the game. It will also contain all the previously released DLC expansions including Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn. Presumably, the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version will offer enhanced visuals, though this has yet to be confirmed by Bethesda.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim first launched for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in 2011 and has been re-released on numerous occasions. It has since come to Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and even has a PS VR edition. Following its launch this fall, it will be one of the most re-released games ever, with 12 total launches over the course of its life cycle.

Bethesda is currently working on a follow-up, aptly titled The Elder Scrolls VI, though it will likely be a while before it releases. In the meantime, players have no shortage of ways to experience Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is nothing short of legendary. It managed to win over 200 awards and sold more than 30 million copies from its initial release. This would only be amplified by not one but two re-releases, a 2016 launch that saw a cool 939,000 copies sold in the first week, in addition to the Nintendo Switch port that following year.

Emblematic as the experience may be, Bethesda's lore-riddled fantasy RPG wouldn't be one of the greatest open-world games without its dedicated modding community. From simple graphical touchups to complete out-of-universe transformations, Skyrim mods have evolved alongside the iconic title. Whether it's home to more immersive NPCs or becomes a nightmarish version of the Mushroom Kingdom, Tamriel can now practically become anything a player desires.

New Atari 50 DLC shows the Intellivision acquisition is already paying off
An Atari 2600+ sits on a table.

Digital Eclipse's Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is an excellent and comprehensive look back at the company's now classic video game lineup, with games to play and extra content to interact with. So far, it's gotten one DLC: The Wider World of Atari, that added even more titles. Now, it's about to get its second, thanks to an acquisition it made earlier this year.

Atari announced The First Console War on Friday, and it's about, as you can guess, the company's first console war with the Intellivision, although it'll touch on a specific element of it. In the 1980s, Mattel was publishing games on the Intellivision. At some point, it decided to release versions of these console exclusives for its main competitor, the Atari 2600, under the M Network label. There are 19 of these games coming to Atari 50 with The First Console War, which is set to launch on November 8 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 Atari 50 owners.
