Tom Hanks says there will be a Toy Story 4

While doing publicity with the BBC for his upcoming film, Larry Crowne, Tom Hanks was asked if there would be a Toy Story 4 for his newly born granddaughter to watch. Hanks replied “I think there will be, yeah. Yeah, I think they’re working on it now.”

That probably shouldn’t be all that surprising since Toy Story 3 became only the third film ever to be nominated for Best Picture, and it won Best Animated Film for 2010. Oh, and it made well over $1 billion and went on to become the fifth highest grossing film of all time, so there’s that.

Obviously, if Hanks is correct, there will still be a lot of work between now and the release of a fourth movie in the series. Even if Toy Story 4 is in the earliest stages of development at Pixar, that doesn’t make it a certainty that it will happen. But again, the last film made over $1 billion.

This is the first mention of a Toy Story 4, so no release date is known. Pixar has a pattern of releasing one movie a year since 2006, sometimes waiting two years between each film. With both Brave and Monsters University already confirmed for 2012 and 2013 respectively, Toy Story 4 wouldn’t hit theaters until after that.

Tom Hanks is Geppetto in first look at live-action Pinocchio

In his long Hollywood career, Tom Hanks has had two major roles for Disney: Woody the Cowboy in the Toy Story franchise and Walt Disney himself in Saving Mr. Banks. And for his next Disney contribution, Hanks is one of the stars of the upcoming live-action adaptation of Pinocchio, which is heading to Disney+ later this year.

In the film, Hanks will portray Geppetto, the lonely old puppeteer who crafted Pinocchio with his own hands. Out of desperation and loneliness, Geppetto wished for a son. His wish was granted by the Blue Fairy, and Pinocchio took on a life of his own. Unfortunately for Geppetto, Pinocchio wasn't exactly a dutiful son. And Pinocchio also has quite a talent for getting into trouble.

Fans of the Toy Story franchise already know that Buzz Lightyear has traveled to infinity and beyond, but now they'll finally get to see some of the adventures that brought the Space Ranger to the Pixar universe.

Disney has released the first trailer for Lightyear, a full-length, animated feature that promises to tell the "real story" behind the hero who inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy line from the Toy Story films. Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Chris Evans will voice Buzz in the film, which appears to chronicle the character's expedition into outer space in search of, well ... we don't quite know yet.

Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks to bring WWII drama Masters of the Air to Apple TV+

The team that brought you Band of Brothers and The Pacific is at it again. Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment and Playtone, the production company owned by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, will adapt Donald L. Miller’s nonfiction novel Masters Of The Air for Apple. The limited series will air exclusively on Apple's upcoming streaming service, Apple TV+.

Spielberg, Hanks, and Goetzman will serve as executive producers on the series, which tells the story of the Eighth Air Force, or the Mighty Eighth, a group of pilots that changed the course of World War II. Masters of the Air will be written by Band of Brothers scribe John Orloff. Deadline reports that the series will be about eight hours long, and will cost around $200 million to produce.
