EVE Online is getting a multiplayer shooter spinoff

During EVE Fanfest 2022, CCP Games London revealed that a multiplayer first-person shooter spinoff of the popular MMO EVE Online is in the works.

The game remains untitled, and details on this new game are still scarce as CCP Games says it “wants to show you rather than tell you how they have evolved this concept.” All it’s saying right now is that the game will be an innovative “online tactical FPS” set in New Eden. So far, just one piece of concept art has been released that features gun-toting soldiers walking through water.

As even Gundam is getting in on the multiplayer first-person shooter spinoff craze, it’s not too surprising that EVE Online would follow suit. Hopefully, it emulates the best of the genre while still having a unique EVE Online flair to it. This is actually CCP Games’ third attempt at this concept.

CCP Games released Dust 514 for PS3 in 2013, but that game shut down in 2016. The developer then revealed a shooter called Project Nova before scrapping that project and allowing its London studio to start conceptualizing this current game. Hopefully, this project does not meet the same fate.

Thankfully, this wasn’t the only thing revealed during EVE Fanfest 2022. We learned that CCP Shanghai is working on a free-to-playx strategy game for mobile that will enter player testing later this year. EVE Online is also getting Microsoft Excel collaboration (yes, really), so keeping track of all of EVE Online’s data will be easier.

CCP Games London’s first-person shooter is still without a release date, but the studio has confirmed that the game is currently ramping up preproduction development.

With Stadia's shutdown only months away, Bethesda is now offering free access to The Elder Scrolls Online on PC and Mac to all Stadia players. Players who own the title on Stadia only need to log in to their ESO account page and download the game, with no additional purchase required.

When Google announced that it was shutting down its cloud service, Stadia, fans had questions about what would happen to their progress in specific games like Destiny 2. Some developers have moved to port their games to other platforms in response to the confusion, but The Elder Scrolls Online will go a step further by making sure Stadia players won't lose any progress.

Need a new multiplayer game? Try this 24-player mech shooter

Aside from the recent PC release of Mech Warrior 5 in 2021, there’s been a distinct shortage of games about giant robots duking it out in space. Don’t get me wrong: Titanfall and its sequel were delightful in how they spliced tight first-person shooting with pilotable mechs that one could summon from the sky. Meanwhile, multiplayer-focused mech games like Vox Machinae and Hawken have come and gone, existing in their own corners of the industry. The former was predominantly designed around virtual reality, and the latter was a free-to-play albeit defunct shooter that’s been out of the picture since early 2018. In light of that, there’s plenty of space for a new game to come along and reinvigorate the giant robot niche.

That’s what upcoming arena shooter Galahad 3093 seeks to do. It mixes elements of Mech Warrior, Hawken, Overwatch, and Starsiege: Tribes into one experience. That mix should be, at the very least, intriguing to those who’ve been waiting for their next mech shooter fix.

Pokémon Sword and Shield won’t get new content or updates

With Pokémon Scarlet and Violet coming around the bend, The Pokémon Company has announced that the last mainline games in the series, Pokémon Sword and Shield, will not be supported with new content after November 1.

According to Serebii.net, The Pokémon Company is weaning online content support away from the previous mainline titles with one last update. On November 1, Wild Area News will receive a final update that comes with Pokémon that weren't normally available, such as Gigantamax Snorlax. Wild Area events are typically held once a month, but after this update, the game won't receive any more updates.
