The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim gets a $150 Collector’s Edition

Bethesda Softworks‘ November 11-releasing RPG The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the biggest games this year. That is a fact. There’s some stiff competition for best, and only after everything’s been played will we have an answer there, but Skyrim screams big on every level. From the game world to the freedom of play to the advertising campaign, “big” seems to be a buzz word. And yes, that extends to the newly announced Collector’s Edition as well.

The $150 premium version of Skyrim adds a bunch of stuff — real, physical things as opposed to downloadable virtual items — to the package. The centerpiece is a statue of Alduin, the World Eater (not to be confused with Marvel’s Galactus, Devourer of Worlds). The 12-inch tall PVC figure was made using the game’s 3D digital files, a press release notes, with Alduin roosting atop one of the game’s dragon walls “that teach the player the lethal language of dragons.” “Lethal” probably being the best adjective one could use to describe the language of a race of creatures that breath fire.

Also included in the package is a 200-page coffee table-style art book that explores the game’s creation, with a foreword written by Todd Howard. Rounding things out is a DVD containing a “making of” documentary that also steps behind the scenes of Skyrim‘s development. It’s not mentioned in the release, but based on the above image it looks like you’ll also get some kind of cloth or vinyl map of the Skyrim region.

Now that players could've potentially been playing Skyrim for a decade by this point, there may not feel like there's anything left to do in this huge, open-world RPG.
