The champ is back: New Asus ROG Phone 6 is coming on July 5

The gaming phone champion is coming back on July 5. Asus will hold an online launch event to introduce the new Asus ROG Phone 6, the latest version in what is arguably the best gaming-first smartphone range available. It has been more than a year since the ROG Phone 5 was released, so a sequel is a little overdue. Here’s what Asus has in store for us.

Asus has chosen the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor for the phone, an expected move and a possible reason for the phone’s slightly longer than expected gestation period. The screen will be made by Samsung and have a 165Hz refresh rate, up from 144Hz on the ROG Phone 5 and higher than the 120Hz on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. The size of the screen isn’t known at this time, but expect it to be around the same 6.78-inch size as the previous model.

A “space-inspired look” is being teased regarding the design, as are unique features that will enhance gameplay on the phone. Outside of the phone itself, Asus says to expect a range of accessories and gaming headphones to go along with the ROG Phone 6, and it’s these that keep Asus’s gaming phone ahead of the pack.

For the last few versions, Asus has delivered a collection of gaming peripherals including controllers and accessories to connect your phone to a television or monitor. They’re never cheap, but they add so much extra to the overall experience and turn what could just be another powerful phone into the hub of a mobile gaming center. It may even put it all inside another suitcase for the hardcore fan.

On that subject, we’ll be looking out to see if Asus also has a sequel to the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate. The limited edition phone swapped the RGB lighting on the back of the standard ROG Phone 5 for a small screen and bumped the specs up to include a whopping 18GB of RAM. It remains a very cool phone, and we’re definitely hoping for a new version.

Asus will reveal the ROG Phone 6 on July 5 during an online event held at 5 a.m. PT/ 8 a.m. ET, and 1 p.m. BST if you’re in the U.K. We’ll have all the news for you on the day.

Don’t buy the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Here are 5 reasons to wait for the Z Fold 7
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 in different colors.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 has arrived. With Samsung’s newest top-tier foldable, you get blazing-fast performance with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chip, along with 12GB RAM and a ton of new Galaxy AI features to maximize your productivity. And with up to 1TB of storage, there’s plenty of space for all of your photos and video taken with the triple-lens rear camera system.

But as great as the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 sounds, there are a few reasons to hold off and wait for next year’s model, especially considering the expensive $1,900 price tag. Here are some reasons why waiting for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 might be a better idea.

I spent two hours with the Galaxy Z Flip 6. These are the 5 things that stood out to me
Two Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphones next to each other.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip had a big year in 2023. Last year's phone introduced the Flip series' largest cover screen, a new hinge that closed fully shut, and other worthwhile spec upgrades across the board. After a year where the Galaxy Z Flip 4 felt like it was coasting by, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 showed why Samsung was still one of the best in the folding business.

But now it's 2024, and for this year, we have the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6. Where last year's Z Flip was bold and exciting, this year's model is ... not. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as the changes Samsung did make — while subtle — are very promising. But in a year when competing foldables are better than ever, combined with some lingering issues Samsung didn't address, I also have some reservations.

An absurd new phone is coming to crush the iPhone and Android
A render of the Up Mobile smartphone.

Just when you thought Web3 -- the name given to a decentralized version of the internet -- had been consigned to the history books, along comes a new smartphone project to try to convince you otherwise, and, in an attempt to ensure it appears as up-to-date as possible, adds another buzzword to the list: AI.

What I’m talking about is called the Up Mobile, and if mention of Web3 and AI together weren't enough, it also has some blockchain technology inside for good measure. If this were Buzzword Bingo, someone would be shouting "House!" right about now.
