Get ready to play Steam games on your AR glasses

Nreal, an augmented reality company based in China, has announced it is launching a Steam beta on its Nreal Light and Nreal Air AR glasses, the latter of which released last September. Dubbed Steam on Nreal, the beta will give users a chance to stream their favorite games from their PC to the AR glasses.

Nreal says in a press release that the beta will be released toward the end of June, but admits that it will be finicky. Nreal is the first company to bring PC games onto AR glasses to date, let alone Steam games, so setting it up requires arduous effort and Steam on Nreal is also not optimized for all Steam games. However, it said that the beta is compatible with DiRT Rally and the entire Halo series.

“We’re excited to be the first to bring Steam into AR,” Nreal co-founder Peng Jin said. “The beta release is meant to give people a glimpse into what is possible. After all, AAA games should be played on 200-inch HD screen and they should be played free of location restrictions.”

The Nreal glasses are already able to stream games, as users can access Xbox Cloud Gaming titles on either model through Nebula, Nreal’s 3D display system. With Steam on Nreal, gamers will be able to stream a couple more games from their PC until more become compatible at the end of the beta stage.

The launch of the Steam on Nreal beta will coincide with the company’s first AR Jam, a summer-long competition in which AR developers create apps for a chance to win $100,000 in cash prizes. Registration for the contest opened on Wednesday, and the event will run through mid-August.

There are few gaming experiences that can surpass the feeling of overcoming a challenge in a puzzle game. Whether it's getting first place in Tetris 99 or cracking a mind-bending word combination in Baba is You, puzzle games can bring the most satisfaction out of any game genre out there. That's why it's great to see Steam celebrating the genre with a dedicated sale.
Between now and May 1, lots of notable titles are discounted during Steam Puzzle Fest, giving you a good opportunity to stack your PC library with some incredibly clever games. What's more exciting, though, is that many of the best games featured during the sale cost less than $10. At that price point, you'll find some genre-defining classics and recent hits that are worth checking out. If you're looking for some new games to pick up during the Steam Puzzle Fest, these are some games that you shouldn't ignore -- and the whole batch will only cost you around $60.
Portal and Portal 2 -- $1.48

Kicking off this list, we two of the most iconic puzzle games of all time. Portal, while extremely short, was quite mind-blowing at the time of its release because of how it got players to "think with portals." It included a variety of puzzles that could be solved by placing portals, which players could move themselves and objects through. Portal 2 offers more of that already great formula, with lots of new puzzles to solve, hysterical writing, and an excellent co-op mode that can be enjoyed with a friend.
The Portal games are some of the most tightly designed first-person puzzle games out there, and they are centered around a mechanic that still feels novel to this day. Both Portal and Portal 2 are just $1 each during this puzzle game sale (or you can pick up the Portal Bundle for $1.48). Any fan of the genre owes it to themselves to pick these games up if they somehow haven't played them already.

7 excellent game deals you can’t miss during Steam’s Xbox publisher sale

Like a lot of modern gamers, I'm an Xbox Game Pass subscriber. I get a lot out of the subscription service, using it to play everything from Microsoft's first-party exclusives to smaller indie sensations like Citizen Sleeper. There's just one downside to that: I don't own any games I play on it. If Microsoft decided to pull a game like Forza Horizon 5 one day, I'd have to shell out if I ever wanted to continue my progress. It's a peculiar side-effect to the gaming subscription era, one that still makes me eager to buy any Game Pass title I love.

If you're in the same boat as me, Steam can help. The PC storefront is currently running an Xbox Publisher Sale, which features major discounts on some of Microsoft's biggest titles. From now until May 4, you'll find heavy hitters like Halo Infinite and Gears 5 discounted. What's particularly eye-catching is that tons of excellent games are currently on sale for $20 or less -- with some of Xbox's best exclusives selling for as low as $5. Wii and GameCube emulator Dolphin is coming to Steam

Dolphin, a popular video game emulator for Wii and GameCube games, is currently set to hit Steam Early Access later this year.
The emulation software's Steam store page went live today. Although the page's software description can't directly name Nintendo's consoles, Dolphin Emulator's Steam description boasts about how it can play "classics from the big N's cube-shaped and motion-controlled consoles" in 4K with modern controller support, hacked widescreen and HD texture packs, better frame rates, local multiplayer, save states, slow motion, and turbo button presses.
It also reiterates that Dolphin itself doesn't come with or pirate any Nintendo games, instead positioning itself as a "tool to run legally obtained copies of these games" after someone has converted them into a compatible format. It'll certainly be interesting to see if that framing is good enough to prevent Nintendo from taking Dolphin Emulator off Steam.

When Dolphin Emulator is added to Steam in the second quarter of 2023, it'll be free, but also in early access. Its volunteer developers are aiming to exit early access by the end of 2023 after adding "better Steam integration and a more streamlined UI for Steam Deck users." Valve's Steam Deck handheld has already proven itself to be a haven for video game emulation, and Dolphin Emulator being available on Steam will only make that process even easier. While most GameCube and Wii games aren't available on Switch, the company has long been against emulation of its titles. As such, we'll definitely be keeping an eye on this to see if Dolphin Emulator makes actually launhes on Steam.
Dolphin Emulator will be released on Steam in the second quarter of 2023.
