LEGO announces iPhone-based building game

Now here’s an unexpected pairing that makes a wacky sort of sense: LEGO and iPhones.

The Danish company responsible for the iconic building blocks announced its new interactive iPhone app this week, and it’s an interesting one, to say the least.

Titled The Life of George, the app challenges users to quickly build small models using real LEGO bricks and then snap a photo of the finished product with the iPhone’s camera. Points are then awarded for accuracy and speed.

Sounds easy enough, but before you start building, you’ll need to purchase a real-world retail package required for the app. The package comes with all the necessary blocks and a special pad that facilitates pattern recognition on the app.

The game will feature 12 levels of brick-manipulating challenges, all of which revolve around George, a tech-savvy character who travels the world. Users will build things like George’s board shorts, a pineapple, or other items he encounters during his travels.

LEGO has indicated that, along with the specified models in the game, there will also be a “My Life” feature that allows users to create their own models. The company plans to add some element of Facebook-facilitated sharing of these models down the road.

At this point, the app is iOS-only and limited to the iPhone and 4th-generation iPod touch, though LEGO has indicated that an Android version is being considered. The Life of George will retail for $29.99, and is only available at LEGO’s website and LEGO retail stores for now.

Can you play Genshin Impact on an iPhone?
what is genshin impact

Genshin Impact is a mobile phenomenon, offering a vast amount of exploration, customization, activities, and more -- with relatively light microtransactions for its free-to-play model. It also gets excellent updates that continue to add new characters and content to experiment with.

All that said, if you have an iPhone, you may be wondering if Genshin Impact is compatible with it. Not all mobile games are, and even if yours is, it may not have the performance level you're looking for. Let’s take a look at playing Genshin on an iPhone, plus everything else you should know.
Can I play Genshin Impact on my iPhone?
Yes, you can. In fact, you can visit the App Store and download it for free right now. One of the handy things about Genshin is that you can play it on pretty much anything. Since the game was designed with mobile in mind, it functions particularly well on mobile devices, and your iPhone is no exception. You will need enough space, though -- around 15GB is required on mobile devices, but this can vary a bit and increases with updates.

iOS 16 lets you pair Nintendo Switch controllers to your iPhone
Two players play Nintendo Switch.

Apple forgot to mention one important detail about iOS 16 at its annual WWDC conference yesterday: iPhone users will be able to play games with their Nintendo Switch Pro and Joy-Con controllers.

iOS 16 won't be released to everyone's iPhones until fall, but it is currently out as a developer preview, giving devs ample opportunities to test out and discover some of the new operating system's quirks and exploits. Riley Testut, the developer behind the Delta emulator and AltStore, shared his discovery of iOS 16 natively supporting the Nintendo Switch Pro and Joy-Con controllers, although they show up as a single device. He reported that "they work perfectly with Delta," which emulates games from SNES, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance.

Diablo Immortal shows gaming phones should be taken seriously
Diablo Immortal on the iPhone 13 Pro and the Asus ROG Phone 5.

Diablo Immortal is one of the biggest mobile game releases of the year, and it’s sure to be as challenging for mobile devices to run as it is for a player to complete. Gaming smartphones are sold with the promise of having all the right technology and software tools to make games fly and, in theory, you a better player.

Is a gaming phone necessary to get the best from Diablo Immortal, or is an iPhone just as capable? To find out, we’ve played the game on the Asus ROG Phone 5 and the iPhone 13 Pro.
Power and ergonomics
The Asus ROG Phone 5 came out in early 2021, but remains the pinnacle of gaming smartphones due to Asus’s comprehensive software toolkit, a giant amount of processing ability, shoulder mounted buttons, many accessories, and a whole lot more. We tried the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and 18GB of RAM for power, and the 6.78-inch, 144Hz refresh rate AMOLED screen for the visuals. The 360Hz touch sampling rate should make it lightning fast to react too.
