Hulu content is now available inside Disney+ as a ‘beta’

The Hulu section within Disney+.

If you’ve been waiting on pins and needles for the merger of Hulu with Disney+ (especially now that Disney effectively owns all of Hulu), well, that wait is over because you can now get Hulu shows and movies inside the Disney+ app.

And … that’s pretty much all there is to it. It’s part of the previously announced “beta” test to bring everything under one roof. (The full, official rollout is said to be coming in March.) And we say “beta” in quotes there because, unlike a traditional beta test that actually requires you to opt into the beta test, this one sort of just happened. The reason for the beta moniker, CEO Bob Iger said in November, is that it’s “giving parents time to set up profiles and parental controls that work best for their families.”

It’s all simple enough: If you also have a subscription to Hulu, you’ll now see a Hulu logo inside the Disney+ app, both on mobile and on a streaming platform. (I used an iPhone and Apple TV, for what that’s worth.) Click through, and you’ll be presented with the world of content that’s currently available on Hulu.

Hulu content is also returned as a search result from the top level of the app, which is exactly how you’d expect it to work.

One thing that didn’t convert over is any sort of “resume” playlist. If you were in the middle of a show or series on Hulu proper, it looks like you’re going to have to go to it directly in the Disney+ app to jump back into where you left off. That’s hardly a deal-breaker, though it’s worth noting.

Otherwise? Things look to work exactly as you’d expect. You’ll need to have both a Disney+ account and a Hulu account to take advantage. And if you don’t? Disney+ will happy upgrade you for a small fee.

Elon Musk’s X TV is now available in your living room
The X TV app on LG smart TVs.

If what's been missing from your life is a video-centric app from a platform that still considers itself to be the world's town square, is run at the whims of an (ahem) extremely eccentric billionaire, and that has in many ways given up on any semblance of moderation that would make it the sort of place you'd want to admit hanging out, welcome to X TV.

The app is now live on the various app stores — we've found it on Google Play, LG's app store, and the Amazon App Store (searching for it on Apple TV only returned the legacy Twitter app as I write this). There are different release dates depending on which platform you're looking at. Amazon shows it as having been live since late July, but LG's app store says August 29, 2024.

The price increases will continue until morale -- or the bottom line -- improves. The three streaming services that fall under the Disney umbrella -- that's Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu -- are once again the subject of price increases. It's far from the first time, and very likely won't be the last.

Here's how everything shakes out this time around:

Tubi is now available on Apple Vision Pro
A press image of Tubi on Apple Vision Pro.

The biggest free ad-supported streaming service is now available on Apple Vision Pro. Tubi -- the Fox-owned service that has more than 250,000 movies and TV episodes, and more than 250 live channels -- can now be loaded onto Apple's VR platform. It's still free, and it still has ads, of course. And the inclusion on Apple Vision Pro brings the number of platforms Tubi supports to just shy of three dozen.

You can watch Tubi on Apple Vision Pro in the U.S., Australia, and Canada.
