Valorant Episode 8 Act 1 begins next week, and today, Riot Games revealed that it will introduce a brand new weapon to the game. A double-barreled sniper rifle called the Outlaw, it is the first new weapon to come to Valorant since Riot Games released it in 2020.

As the third sniper rifle in Valorant, Outlaw stands out from the others because it’s a two-shot weapon that doesn’t break zoom when fired and has different reload times depending on how many shots are left. It’ll cost 2,400 credits in the pre-round item shop, which puts it between the price tags of the other sniper rifles during a match.

In a quote provided to Digital Trends, Valorant Game Product Management Senior Manager Coleman Palm explained that Riot Games hesitated to add any new weapons to Valorant for a long time because the developers believe each one needs to “have a strong reason to exist – what situations you’re purchasing it in, how you want to use it, etc.” After years of live service and balancing, Palm says the team saw the need for “a mid-price, lethal sniper rifle that we believe will bring more options for the sniping playstyle,” so Riot Games implemented the Outlaw.

Outlaw will be added to the game as part of a free update, but its weapon skins will still need to be paid for with real money. To commemorate its release, the Throwback Pack: Outlaw bundle will be available for 2,320 VP in Valorant’s store. It comes with the Prism//Reloaded and Ego Outlaw skins, each of which has three variants and also contains an Outlaw-themed player card, gun buddy, spray, and title.

You can use the Outlaw in Valorant when Episode 8 Act 1 begins on January 9.

Xbox Game Pass is getting its first Call of Duty game
A soldier with a shotgun pointing to shoot in Modern Warfare 3.

Xbox isn't waiting until Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to get a Call of Duty game on Game Pass. The company announced Tuesday that 2023's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be added to the service on Wednesday, July 24.

The announcement was heavily rumored beforehand, with reports from outlets like Insider Gaming, but it was made official on Xbox Wire. Xbox confirmed that the game will be hitting Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate (so every old tier ahead of the upcoming price hike), and it will include most modes, including single-player and the more open-world Zombies mode. It doesn't appear to include Warzone, the series' battle royale spinoff, although that's free to play.

If you love Animal Crossing, try this great new PC game next
The player rides their bike through some townies in Go-Go Town.

Like millions of other people, I was briefly addicted to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in early 2020. Needing to play it for work and having little else to do, I dumped a lot of time into that Nintendo Switch game over the course of a couple of months in spring 2020. After losing a lot of bells in the game's stalk market and getting frustrated by the slow cadence of updates, I bounced off the game hard and have had trouble returning to my island ever since. Thankfully, there are plenty of games aiming to take a shot at Animal Crossing: New Horizons' cutesy town-building, life simulation crown. While some people prefer games like Hello Kitty: Island Adventure, I've recently been hooked on Go-Go Town.

Released into Steam early access by Prideful Sloth and Cult Games on June 18, Go-Go Town is a charmingly approachable game about building a run-down city back up as its mayor. Although it's not the most innovative game in the genre, Go-Go Town's appealing presentation, intuitive gameplay systems, and already-present gameplay loops made it the first game in a while to remind me of why I loved Animal Crossing: New Horizons so much in 2020. With Prideful Sloth already being very transparent about its early access plans, Go-Go Town is shaping up to be something really special.
