You can claim this 2024 video game flop for free on Prime Day

If you ever wanted to try out the early 2024 flop Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but didn’t want to spend any money on it, your chance is coming soon. Starting on Prime Day (July 16-17), you can claim the DC game for free — but you only have 48 hours.

Starting at 3 a.m. ET, Prime subscribers can claim an Epic Games Store code for the game, which pits Harley Quinn, King Shark, Captain Boomerang, and Deadshot against Brainiac, who has brainwashed members of the Justice League to do his bidding. And in classic Suicide Squad fashion, they have to do it or risk getting their head exploded.

You can check out the Amazon blog for more information on where these titles will be available, but it’s a mix of Epic, the Amazon Games App, and GOG. You can find them all on the Prime Gaming hub.

Suicide Squad was a troubled production, getting delayed multiple times. According to Bloomberg, developer Rocksteady — known for its Batman: Arkham games — struggled to jump from single-player to a live-service title with four characters, resulting in an inconsistent vision. After its February release, Warner Bros. Discovery revealed it had taken a $200 million loss on the game.

Despite having uninteresting microtransactions, repetitive gameplay, and a poorly received Season of the Joker story expansion, it’s a fascinating failure, a cautionary tale about the industry’s live-service troubles. It’s not all bad either, with an sometimes risky story and some decent traversal mechanics. And for free, it might be worth trying out.

If you only buy one game this Prime Day, it should be this one
Ichiban and Sujimon celebrating.

Each year during Amazon Prime Day, I like to browse for some of the best gaming deals. It's a good opportunity to pick up some recent games at cheaper-than-usual prices and catch up on some releases from the first half of the year. While I already own the game in question, I spotted one deal during my search that I don't think any RPG fans should pass up. The PlayStation 4 and PS5 versions of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega's Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is on sale for just $35.

Typically priced at $70, this is a 50% discount on my favorite RPG of 2024, a game I like even more than Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Dragon's Dogma 2. While it might seem a bit daunting to get into the latest entry in a long-running, soap-operatic gaming franchise, Infinite Wealth is one of the most entertaining games of the year and worth picking up at just $35 if you haven't played it already.

The only downside is that you'll have to use the Amazon Games launcher instead of something like Steam.

Lilith, Mother of Demons, in the Marvel's Midnight Suns trailer.

If you missed out on Marvel's Midnight Suns, the 2022 turn-based RPG from XCOM developer Firaxis Games -- and based on the poor sales numbers, a lot of you did -- you can now play it for free thanks to the Epic Games Store.

The storefront has a new free game for users to claim every week, and this time it's Marvel's Midnight Suns. However, you only have until June 13 to claim the game for free. The deal only applies to the base game, although the two editions with extras are also on sale. The digital+ version comes with 11 premium skins and is on sale for $20 (down from the $80 full price). If you want access to all the post-launch characters -- Deadpool, Venom, Morbius, and Storm -- along with those premium skins, you can purchase the legendary edition for $25 (down from $100).
