Are you the kind of person that would like to own the Porsche Panamera but fear it isn’t quite exclusive enough? Does the thought of seeing your $80,500 sports sedan lost in the parking lot of your country club in a veritable sea of other Panameras haunt you? Then Porsche has the solution for you: the Panamera Platinum Edition.
Hitting showrooms on January 5th, 2013, the Platinum Edition Panamera will be available in both standard rear-wheel drive Panamera and all-wheel drive Panamera 4 models. And while Porsche has made the explanation of the additional features exceedingly difficult to decipher, we’ll do our best to lay it out for you.
As best we can work out, the Platinum edition is essentially the standard Panamera but with a few more standard features that are optional on the regular Panamera, including; Bi-Xenon with Porsche Dynamic Lighting System (PDLS) main headlights; parking assist front and rear; and 19-inch Panamera Turbo alloy wheels complete with full color Porsche center crests.
Additionally, the Platinum Edition will be available in five exterior colors: white, black, basalt black metallic, carbon grey, and mahogany lacquer. Exterior accents will come in form of high gloss black side window stripes and platinum silver coated side view mirrors, turbo model grille, trunk lid spoiler, and rear diffuser.
Moving to the interior, Porsche has created a distinctive black and beige two-tone color scheme for the Platinum Edition Panamera. Upgradable to full leather, the partial leather Platinum Edition interior is marked by “Platinum Edition” insignias on the front and rear seat headrests as well as on the front door trim strips.
The Platinum Edition includes several standard features we were surprised to learn were only optional on the regular Panamera, including; Power Steering Plus; front and rear heated seats; Bose audio system; and a Premium Package. Believe it or not, simply specifying the Platinum Edition is a savings over simply ordering the optional extras on a standard Panamera.
So there you have it. The Porsche Panamera Platinum Edition gives buyers exclusivity paired with frugality. Makes you wonder; what will Porsche think of next?
