Geneva 2013: 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible brings American drop-top muscle to Europe

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

The long wait is finally over: Chevrolet has finally released the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible. And somehow it looks even better than the coupe!

We absolutely love the looks of the new Stingray and were a bit worried that chopping the top would sully the looks. They haven’t, not one bit. In fact, we’d wager the drop-top version looks better than its hardtop brother.

The cloth roof can be operated from the key fob or from a switch on the interior. So whether your walking up to the American sports car on a hot day or simply wishing to get some wind in what’s left of your hair on the highway, the Stingray has got you covered. Delightfully, the soft-top can be actuated up to speeds of 30 miles-per-hour.

Under the hood, the story is what we expected: the standard 6.2-liter V8 has been fitted under the hood of the convertible, just like the hardtop. With 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, the Stingray Convertible has plenty of giddy-up.

Chevrolet decided to unveil the Stingray Convertible in Europe because it sees the Corvette as the face of Chevrolet overseas. In fact, Chevrolet will offer the Stingray for sale in the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Japan, and Russia in a left-hand-drive layout.

Europeans have often derided the Corvette for being a bit antiquated when compared to its sports cars. Perhaps now with its aluminum frame, carbon fiber bodywork, and modern interior, the Corvette can win over some of its detractors. With a 50:50 front-to-rear weight ratio, it’s hard to see why it wouldn’t.

We’ll end our written coverage here and let the pictures speak for itself. It’s clear, the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible is a gorgeous, gorgeous creature. If you’d like to learn more about the 2014 Corvette Stingray, read our in-depth look into the iconic American sports car.
