Range Rover is teasing the up-coming unveiling of its re-worked best-selling model: the Range Rover Sport.
The all-new Range Rover Sport is set to debut at this year’s New York Auto Show on March 26th. The newest version of the infamous luxury British SUV will debut in what Land Rover is calling “a ground-breaking live drive” through the streets of Manhattan.
It’s an apt location for the unveiling as New York City stands as the Range Rover Sport’s strongest sales market. Why exactly, we can’t say. Why urbanites like those in Manhattan would need a 510-horsepower 4×4 is beyond us. But bully for Range Rover, we suppose.
Under the hood of the most responsive and agile model to-date, we anticipate two drivetrain options. The new supercharged 3.0-liter V6 from Jaguar, which was just recently added to the new big daddy Range Rover, will certainly become the latest entry-level engine for the Range Rover Sport. Producing 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the all-aluminum V6 will add much-needed fuel efficiency to the Range Rover Sport.
At the top end, we suspect the 5.0-liter, 510-horsepower Jaguar V8 with an eight-speed auto to remain as the range-topper.
Standing as the third Range Rover model to premier in two years, the Range Rover Sport shouldn’t be too drastically different. With a new interior and exterior looks to mimic the big Range Rover, the Sport should remain relatively the same.
We won’t know more until the official unveiling later this month at the New York show, which starts on March 27.
Digital Trends will have car-crazy staffers at the show getting photos and the latest breaking news on the new Sport and everything else.
