New performance technologies on the 2014 model include enhanced safety elements, a more refined turbo engine and the introduction of all-wheel drive.

The 2014 Regal also includes new radar-and camera-based safety features – including Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert and Collision Mitigation Braking – for surround protection.

In-vehicle connectivity now features the next-generation IntelliLink, which is intended to provide users with simpler, more intuitive controls and natural speech recognition.

The new Regal is also offered with Adaptive Cruise Control, which senses traffic in front of the car to adjust vehicle speed, including stopping the vehicle in heavy traffic and accelerating again.

“The new 2014 Regal is more expressive, more connected and more technologically advanced. Nearly half of new Regal buyers are conquests who are new to Buick and they represent the youngest median age among the brand’s lineup,” said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of Buick Marketing, in Buick’s official press release statement about the new model.

The new 2.0L turbo engine delivers 18 percent more horsepower in the Regal Turbo.  The available Haldex all-wheel-drive system on the Regal GS features a high-tech interactive drive control as well.

A 2.4L engine with a battery-powered boost from eAssist technology is also available on the 2014 Regal. Six-speed automatic transmissions are matched with both engines and a six-speed manual is available in the Regal GS. Electric power steering is now featured on all models.

With eAssist, a small electric motor aids acceleration, while energy captured from regenerative braking allows the engine to shut off completely while the vehicle is at rest without disrupting the entertainment systems.

The technology, recognized on Popular Science’s “Best of What’s New” in 2011, was considered a major factor in the strong sales of the 2012 Buick LaCrosse, especially in California.
