Monster beats its fashion-forward drum with new Sound Machine headphones

Monster has announced that it will release a new line of headphones called Sound Machine that was designed in tandem with musician and producer, Emilio Estefan. The two models are set to go on sale exclusively at Target on April 14.

The over-ear model, which will sell for $250 has passive noise-isolation with 40mm drivers and a hinge design allowing the ear cups to swivel. The ControlTalk universal cable, which includes playback controls and a microphone, can also be detached.

The on-ear model, selling for $150, has 30mm drivers and playback controls on the cable, but doesn’t have the hinge design of the over-ear model.

For the time being, the headphones will only come in a metallic purple color, and there is no statement confirming other colors will come to market later.

Monster says it collaborated with Estefan to make the headphones “with a special flair for reproducing the rich, percussive nature and vocals of Latin music and rhythms of the world”. In other words, instead of the bass-heavy models Monster came to be known for in its earlier years of headphone production (Beats by Dre, anyone?), the Sound Machine is meant to be another in Monster’s more recently developed headphones designed around musical accuracy.

Target will be selling both models exclusively for 60 days at select retail locations and at Target.com before rolling out to other retailers that have yet to be confirmed.

Sony’s premium soundbars will finally get support for VRR, ALLM

It's been a long time coming, but the wait is almost over. Sony's premium home theater soundbars are set to receive a software update that will add support for variable refresh rate (VRR) and auto low-latency mode (ALLM), two HDMI 2.1 gaming features that have been absent since these products launched.

The soundbars in question are the Sony HT-A5000, HT-A7000, and the multi-wireless speaker HT-A9 system. All three are scheduled to receive the update this fall, but Sony has declined to share specific timing, saying only that there will be more information closer to the rollout date.
