Speculation about Microsoft’s next video game console turned toward the box’s rumored name this week following a report from Fusible (via Game Informer) that pointed to a list of “XboxFusion” domains with URLs that all link back to Microsoft’s official Xbox website. Many of the domains were registered years ago by the company; XboxFusion.com goes all the way back to 2004.
Domain names and redirects hardly amount to proof of a company’s intentions. More often than not, domains are registered simply as a just-in-case option. Other times, it can be used to throw internet sleuths off the trail of whatever they’re seeking. That could be the case here; Microsoft owns other unused domains as well, including XboxNext.com and XboxGold.com. Neither of those redirect to Xbox.com, however; both are simply parked.
We’ll no doubt be waiting until the company’s May 21 Xbox event to find out for sure what the name of the next-gen console will be. The weeks leading up to the reveal will no doubt be filled with speculation just like this. What are your thoughts? Do you like the name Xbox Fusion for the next Xbox console?
