Robots are literally taking over the world. Last week they learned to build IKEA furniture, and this week they’re here to get you too drunk to sit in a chair. Earlier today at Google I/O in San Francisco, CA, MIT’s Senseable City Lab unveiled an automated bartender bot dubbed the Makr Shakr.
It’s worth noting that robot bartenders aren’t a new thing – ever since the dawn of robotics, nerdy booze enthusiasts have been dreaming up elaborate machines that tirelessly serve up drink after perfectly-mixed drink. But this badboy isn’t just a simple, run-of-the-mill booze dispenser; it doesn’t just squirt some hooch into a cup and call it good – it’s designed to mimic the movements of a human bartender, and does everything from shaking the mixer to slicing lemons with a hint of humanoid flair.
And better yet, the whole thing is controlled via a smartphone app, so even if you’re too plastered to say the phrase “gin and tonic,” you can still order another round with just a few finger taps.
