Digital Trends adds two new members to leadership team

Digital Trends, the largest independent consumer-tech website, today announced two new additions to its senior leadership team.

Micah Abrams, a former Senior Editor at ESPN.com, is the new Editor-in-Chief.

Glenn Chin, previously a senior marketing executive with EA SPORTS and Nike, has been named Chief Marketing Officer, a newly-created position.

Since its 2006 founding, Digital Trends has experienced consistent month-over-month growth, attracting more than 12 million unique visitors in May 2013. Its content is also seen by another 40 million people through various syndication partnerships.

“Our belief is that tech should make our lives easier and more enjoyable,” said Ian Bell, Digital Trends co-founder and CEO. “Micah and his team exist to help guide readers through an increasingly digital world. We want to enable people to navigate tech easily, enjoy and learn about tech they know and most importantly discover new tech they’ll love.”

As Editor-in-Chief, Abrams helms a sixty-person editorial team tasked with developing content for the site’s ten-plus sections. Coverage includes topics that guys love and which are a part of their everyday lifestyle; the latest consumer electronics, sports, video games, cars and more.

“We are welcoming to every reader and try to instill confidence through easy-to-understand information” explained Abrams. “We deliver intelligent, useful and provocative reviews, news and viewpoints so everyone can make better choices. There’s no insider jargon or snark here. Our readers are actively engaged with technology, much like our team at DT. Our readers love tech and aren’t afraid to show it. We take our passion, sometimes obsession, for technology and provide an easy path to tech discovery.”

In addition to bolstering its leadership team, Digital Trends recently unveiled a major site redesign. The new site—featuring a cleaner layout and simpler navigation—is part of the company’s focus on presenting a clear brand identity that differentiates it from other online tech-media sites. All of these moves signal a fresh, new chapter for the company, said Bell, who also commented on the strategy behind bringing a CMO onboard.

“I enlisted Glenn because no one is better equipped to ensure we demonstrate our brand’s distinctiveness consistently in everything we do,” said Bell. “Glenn honed his marketing chops in the sports & gaming world, both very competitive industries, and that brings an inimitable perspective to our competitive playing field.”

Chin will focus on developing the DT brand, product marketing, communications and partnerships, as well as launching other lifestyle sites under the Digital Trends umbrella. “Digital Trends’ brand has unlimited potential, we’re just getting started” said Chin. “We want to deliver great consumer experiences and continue to build an innovative platform where brands can story tell and showcase their products.”

Prior to joining Digital Trends, Abrams oversaw the launch programming strategy for Network A, an action sports channel launched as part of YouTube’s “Made For Web” initiative. Before that, he was an ESPN.com Senior Editor and Editor-in-Chief of TransWorld Media’s FREEZE Magazine. He also earned a Sports Emmy for his work on the 2008 Summer Olympics for NBCOlympics.com.

Chin spent a dozen years at EA SPORTS, where he launched numerous award-winning franchises and initiatives as VP of Global Brand Management.  At Nike, he served as Global Brand Director for Nike Basketball and Nike Sport Performance. Most recently, Chin was managing director of MOST-PROLIFIC, the sports and entertainment consultancy he founded.
