Nextbase Portable DVD Player Review

Quote from the review:

“The format of DVD has been incredibly quick to usurp VHS as the standard of choice for watching films. It was circa five years ago that I got my DVD player, which at the time was hideously expensive, and extremely large. Not many people at the time had seen the digital glory of DVD and it would often get a lot of people exclaiming ‘wow’ at the quality of the picture DVD can produce.”

This player caught us by surprise. Its definately a very small player and kind of looks like one of the new PMP portable media players that are coming out on the market. This would be great for traveling.

A JBL Charge 5 Bluetooth speaker sits on a beach.

Higher temperatures are here to stay, and whether for the beach or the backyard, a portable speaker is a good summer investment. There’s some savings to be had on the JBL Charge 5 Bluetooth speaker at Best Buy today. The popular speaker is marked down to just $150, which is a savings of $30 from its regular price of $180. Free shipping is included with your purchase, as are four free months of Amazon Music Unlimited and four free months of SiriusXM.

Why you should buy the JBL Charge 5 Bluetooth speaker
JBL has been making quality portable speakers for some time, with some of them ranking among the best Bluetooth speakers and the best wireless speakers. One of its more popular models is the JBL Charge 5, which is the newest version of its Charge lineup. It produces high quality sound with an optimized long excursion driver, separate tweeter, and dual pumping JBL bass radiators. These deliver rich and clear audio. They sound great with music but can playback movies and other entertainment with great fidelity by connecting to a laptop or other Bluetooth device. The speaker is able to connect to two smartphones or tablets at a time, which makes source audio swappable and a potential community experience.

How to convert your VHS tapes to DVD, Blu-ray, or digital
VHS tape lifestyle DVD burner combo deck

Nostalgia is a powerful motivator. And nothing quite drives nostalgia more than ripping open a storage bin to find a pile of VHS camcorder tapes that pretty much document your life -- from weddings to graduations, to family vacations, to that indie film you made when you thought you were going to be the next Scorcese.
But when you're done tripping down memory lane (assuming you have a VCR to play them on), you might be thinking about converting that VHS gold to a digital format because, whether you know it or not, the tape that those memories are on is slowly decaying and may soon be lost forever. Converting well-worn home movies will never be flawless, but it can be done on a modest budget with a few basic tools.
Below, we'll show you how to save your moments digitally on multiple formats, including by DVD transfer, Blu-ray, or digital file. If you're just too busy, we've also got a list of the various VHS conversion services, including pricing, to help you preserve that 20-year-old home video of you bailing on your first bike. If not for you, do it for posterity's sake.

How we test turntables and record players
Putting a vinyl record on a turntable.

Compared to a lot of other devices that Digital Trends reviews on a regular basis, testing out the newest and best turntables can be capricious. While modern turntables have become much more user-friendly and plug-and-play compared to your dad's old-school deck, many still have delicate moving parts that often require assembly and fine-tuning, which can make the review process tricky, but also a lot of fun. There's also a bigger range of turntables available now than ever before -- some are well worth the money, some are not, and we don't want you to waste your hard-earned cash on the latter.

From tonearms, headshells, and cartridges to plinths, platters, and styluses (styli?), here's how we put a turntable to the test.
