Gemstar-TV Guide to Come to Mobile Phones

The new IPG application, which is currently in development, is expected to be available for deployment later this year and will be demonstrated in TV Guide’s booth #807.

Using Gemstar-TV Guide’s patented IPG technology, the new application will enable mobile phone users to remotely access television program listings, search listings by title, date or network, set program reminders, and forward program reminders to friends’ mobile devices. The IPG will also allow users to schedule recordings on digital video recorders (DVRs) that are integrated with Gemstar-TV Guide’s i-Guide IPG, such as Motorola’s DCT6412 HD-DVR set-top with dual-tuner functionality. i-Guide is Gemstar-TV Guide’s latest IPG for digital cable that features fast, intuitive navigation to advanced interactive services such as on demand, HDTV and dual-tuner DVR options.

In addition, the new application gives users access to TV-related ring tones, wall paper and video content, including sneak peeks of select shows and content from TV Guide SPOT, TV Guide’s new on-demand network. TV Guide Spot is expected to launch to digital subscribers of Comcast and Time Warner Cable in second quarter 2005. A first-of-its-kind on-demand network with all originally-produced content, TV Guide SPOT will feature short-form video entertainment programs that guide consumers to the most compelling fare on TV each week.

Apple Music Sing brings karaoke singalongs to iPhones, Apple TV

Apple wants you to sing like everyone's listening with its new Apple Music Sing feature, a karaoke mode that works with the music streaming service's popular lyrics experience.

Available later this month on iPhone (11 and later), iPads (third-gen and later), and the 2022 model of Apple TV 4K (not earlier models, for some reason) to really max out the karaoke experience in living rooms, Apple Music Sing will be incorporated right into the Apple Music app, giving you the option to use a slider to control the volume of the vocals in Apple Music's song library so you can sing along. With the slider, you can tweak the volume to either blend your voice with the singer's or drop them out completely to go solo. Background vocals are also viewable independently from the main vocals for budding backup singers to follow more easily, and a Duet view separates multiple singers' lyrics on opposite sides of the screen.

My favorite phone of 2022 didn’t come out this year — it’s from 2021

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, iPhone 14 Pro, OnePlus 10 Pro, Pixel 7 Pro, and many more – 2022 saw the release of plenty of amazing flagship smartphones. The iPhone 14 Pro did away with the notch, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra spoiled me with its industry-leading 10x zoom. Google finally got the hardware right with the Pixel 7 Pro, and Samsung made enough refinements to the Fold 4 for it to become my primary device.

But none of these could make the cut as my favorite smartphone of 2022. None of the 2022 flagships lasted as long as my iPhone 13 Pro Max. In fact, I had to charge the Galaxy S22 Ultra twice a day to keep my SIM in it.
