InterVideo, Inc, the company behind WinDVD, has partnered with FarStone Technology in order to bring virtual CD/DVD technology to their flagship product. The VirtualDrive allows users to create multiple CD/DVD-ROM drives, as well as create virtual images of their media libraries which may be stored directly on the hard drive.
The VCD image technology not only allows users to play media without inserting a disc, it even works with PC games as well. The patented FarStone technology allows instant launching, and has access times up to 75% faster than those from a typical optical DVD or CD drive.
Not only for end users, the image technology is built to work for business applications as well. A network version is ideal for storing software or media on a network that will be accessed remotely by a companies desktop computers. The VCD drives can be configured for security, and managed access of software without the need for physical media for every workstation.
