Sony Ericsson today is celebrating the introduction of the first Walkman phone to the American market, the W800. As part of its celebration, they are conducting what they call a “global search for the top songs of all timeâ€.
In this contest, Sony Ericsson said, music fans will be able to vote at a special site to create a soundtrack of the world’s 100 most favorite songs of all time. Participants will have the chance to win a new W800 phone preloaded with these 100 tunes. Other prizes will be up for grabs as well. The vote will be live for six weeks.
The W800 is what Sony is billing as a Walkman phone. It comes with a 512MB Memory Stick Pro Duo card, which can hold around 125 songs of the MP3 or AAC types. It also comes with software for ripping music CDs to the phone, a built-in FM radio, two megapixel camera and Bluetooth wireless connectivity.
“We are incredibly excited to offer North American consumers the Sony Ericsson W800 Walkman phone. And, what better way to signify the importance of mobile music than through a first-of-its-kind search to uncover the world’s top 100 songs,” said Miles Flint president of Sony Ericsson. “The new W800 represents the first complete music phone available on store shelves and online, allowing music lovers around the globe to listen to their favorite songs on a high-quality mobile phone.”
